Historia
“Bad Bobby” Trent, star high school athlete, college scholarship holder, pro-rodeo circuit rider, lived an unencumbered life. He was a man, who, by his own definition, limited his concentration to no more than eight seconds at a time - the time required to ride a bull or saddlebronc and win. He’s tough, independent, shallow, and always looking for a good time. Then his father is murdered. Sheriff Robert Trent, was the longtime chief law enforcement officer of Lodge Pole County Montana. He was stern, fair, honest, and dependable.

long way to go before Longmire quality
Revisado: 03-14-21
the only reason I purchased this book was because someone compared it to the Longmire series. It's possible these authors will reach that quality sometime in the future, but they're a long way away from it right now. I had no empathy for the lead character, I could care less about his Supporting Cast, and the story was very foreseeable. it just had nothing new, no twists, nothing exciting. In fact I barely made it through 3/4 of the book, And that was a slog. for people who like to fish, the story will hold more charm. I've read books with a hook (pardon the pun) such as fishing, dogs, archaeology, but there needs to be a strong plot to retain readers through those extraneous moments. This book just didn't have that solid foundation. I hope they keep writing, and someday I hope to enjoy one of their future books. Right now they need a lot of practice.

Historia
Attempting to recover from his harrowing experiences in Mexico, in Land of Wolves Wyoming Sheriff Walt Longmire is neck deep in the investigation of what could or could not be the suicidal hanging of a shepherd. With unsettling connections to a Basque family with a reputation for removing the legs of Absaroka County sheriffs, matters become even more complicated with the appearance of an oversize wolf in the Big Horn Mountains to which Walt finds himself feeling more and more empathetic.

an older, haunted Walt
Revisado: 02-15-20
I must say, Walt Longmire is one of my favorite characters. I liked this story because it brought me back to when the author's books were a little calmer and I could pay more attention to the surroundings, the plot and to Walt going in and out of his wannna-be Indian stages. I really liked this book. Could have done without the blue-eyed Indian girl, she was one character more than we needed. plus, I wanted to slap her half the time. but that's okay. We want to let slap a lot of people in life. Don't get this book for high-flying Action, get it to enjoy a reflective man in his older years coming to terms with his life.

Historia
Over the years investigator Joe Gunther has battled drug pushers and corporate swindlers, grappled with environmental conspirators, and foiled gangs and home invaders. But while usually successful, Gunther hasn't always come out on top. Thirty years earlier, store owner Klaus Oberfeldt was robbed and beaten senseless. Gunther, distracted by his wife's losing struggle with cancer in the same hospital where Klaus was slipping from life, did something that would plague him for the rest of his career: He let the case go cold, burying it in the past along with his private sorrows.

always excellent entertainment
Revisado: 06-30-19
I do love Mayor's books. they have solid themes and excellent plots. the only place I have a little problem is with the multitude of characters. I'm really glad he keeps a base of characters, but if you take breaks from the book, you do tend to forget who's what and where. His books dig deeply into the American psyche. I love the fact that he keeps the books in the same geographical location and in Vermont you can reach a lot of different states with a short car trip. A great entertaining read and I do love listening to them on audible

Historia
Lieutenant Joe Gunther is in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom investigating a minor embezzling case. It's a pleasant distraction and a chance to reconnect with old friends, but when a house fire reveals itself to be arson, compounded by murder, Gunther can't help but investigate. He quickly finds himself enmeshed in a web of animosity between put-upon townspeople, the state police, angry parents, and members of a reclusive sect.

so glad I found Joe
Revisado: 04-02-19
just started reading Archer Mayor's Joe Gunther series and I'm loving them. although I wouldn't want to live in his town (too many murders), the locale and people remind me of home (Michigan's Upper Peninsula). I like Joe's human frailties, his supporting cast - especially Kunkle - and the small town feel with their dark underbellies. great reading or listening.
