Another artful tale from this well known author. Billy wants out. This is to be his last bad man that needs to be eliminated. Whether or not others will let Billy go is another thing. Held my interest which few novels do.

Perhaps not Grisham's very best, but a good story well narrated. A perfect book for a lazy weekend.

The story is trite, but what is worse is the narrator. She ends every sentence with an inflection. Very irritating..

not a good book to listen to
Revisado: 11-13-17
a friend recommended this book, and it is probably a good book to read but not to listen to. It is a compilation of words from historical sources. The difficulty is the constant referencing each source which is sometimes longer than the comment. It stifles the flow of the narrative. I am going to read it with my eyes which can skip over the sources.

Historia
Across the country women are being murdered by a killer who leaves no evidence, no fatal wounds, no signs of struggle, and no clues to a motive. They are, truly, perfect crimes. In fact, the only thing that links the victims is the man they all knew: Jack Reacher.

what a disappointment
Revisado: 10-23-15
What would have made Running Blind better?
The behavior and threats made by the FBI were ludicrous. And I knew who was guilty from almost the beginning. No subtlety
What was most disappointing about Lee Child’s story?
The narrator used absolutely ridiculous voices for everyone except Reacher and his FBI partner and Jodie.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Johnathan McClain?
anyone could do better
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

a disappointment
Revisado: 05-29-13
What did you like best about Inferno? What did you like least?
This certainly is not as good as his previous books. His research is not well integrated resulting in a pedantic discourse on current events, Italy, Renaissance, architecture - and, of course, Dante. Most of of this information is irrelevant to the story which is not particularly original. To anyone who has studied The Divine Comedy, western history or traveled in Italy, it simply gets tedious and boring.
What aspect of Paul Michael’s performance would you have changed?
In many ways he does a good job, but his English pronunciation of "Beatrice" was a glaring error.

Historia
Ken Follett's World Without End was a global phenomenon, a work of grand historical sweep beloved by millions of readers and acclaimed by critics. Fall of Giants is his magnificent new historical epic. The first novel in The Century Trilogy, it follows the fates of five interrelated families - American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh - as they move through the world-shaking dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for women's suffrage.

If you liked World without End, you will like this
Revisado: 12-02-10
For those who enjoyed his medieval novels and did not find them trite, you will enjoy this book and, no doubt, his next two. For myself, I was greatly disappointed since, at the beginning of Follett's career, I enjoyed his books. They have never been great literature, but they also were never so shallow and predictable as they have become. He sandwiches a lot of history into this novel. Again, if you are unclear about what was going on around the time of WWI, it might add to the interest level. But his characters are stereotyped and his plot weary and worn.

This is the enormously entertaining story of how a fraudulent surgeon made a fortune by inserting goats' testes into impotent American men. "Doctor" John Brinkley became a world renowned authority on sexual rejuvenation in the 1920s, with famous politicians and even royalty asking for his services.

nix the narrator
Revisado: 02-08-09
Fascinating subject, but the narrator was amateurish beyond belief. He did not prepare by checking pronunciation of words. "Precis" he pronounced pre-sis. He did not realize that Gila monster is from the Spanish so it is "Hila" not a g sound. He called Pavia, Italy, PA' via when it is Pa- VI'-A. Kudos to the author; nix the narrator.
