Historia
Mickey Haller has fallen on tough times. He expands his business into foreclosure defense, only to see one of his clients accused of killing the banker she blames for trying to take away her home. Mickey puts his team into high gear to exonerate Lisa Trammel, even though the evidence and his own suspicions tell him his client is guilty. Soon after he learns that the victim had black market dealings of his own, Haller is assaulted, too—and he's certain he's on the right trail.

Wow!
Revisado: 04-26-11
I have read/listened to most of Mr. Connelly's books and loved them all. He always pulls the storyline together at the end, but this one... He got me good! I usually just listen on my Ipod in the car, but with this book I started eating lunch with headphones so I could listen and I was taking extra trips in the car even with today's gas prices!

Historia
How can Leonid McGill say no to the beautiful young woman who walks into his office with a stack of cash? She's an artist, she tells him, who's escaped from poverty via marriage to a rich collector who keeps her on a stipend. But she says she fears for her life, and needs Leonid's help. Though Leonid knows better than to believe every word, this isn't a job he can afford to turn away, even as he senses that - if his family's misadventures don't kill him first - sorting out the woman's crooked tale will bring him straight to death's door.

No The Thrill is not Gone
Revisado: 04-09-11
I was first introduced to Leonid McGill about three weeks ago after hearing about this book on the Tom Joyner Morning show. I am so thrilled to have been listening because I have not been able to get enough of this character. A man who knows that he must make up for his past by doing what he can to help people is such an attractive man!
Mr. Willis is an EXCELLENT narrator. He moves with ease when changing characters. I'm not sure if I am in love with Leonid McGill, Walter Mosley or Mirron Willis.
Start from the first bood to know and appreciate who Mr. McGill and his family are.

Historia
His name is etched on the door of his Manhattan office: LEONID McGILL , PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR. It's a name that takes a little explaining, but he's used to it. Ex-boxer, hard drinker, in a business that trades mostly in cash and favors: McGill's an old-school P.I. working a city that's gotten fancy all around him. Fancy or not, he has always managed to get by - keep a roof over the head of his wife and kids, and still manage a little fun on the side - mostly because he's never been above taking a shady job for a quick buck.

I am N love!
Revisado: 03-31-11
It's been a while since I fell in love with a character. Mr. Leonid McGill is a self persecuted PI that believes he must atone for his past faults, and what woman wouldn't want a man with that much heart to do the right thing? The characters are believable and Mr. Mosley paints a picture so rich with colors and hues that you are drawn into this colorful and dangerous world.
I am on book 3 in less than 3 weeks! This is while working full time and taking 2 online classes.
Leonid come rescue me!

I love Bartimaeus! Jonathan Stroud is a genius at how he gives us a history lesson riddled with humor! Yes I am 46, but this is how I bond with my 13 y/o. Laughing outloud, and often!

Did Mr. Riordan OK the Narration?
Revisado: 02-01-11
My 13 y/o and I are into the first 3 hours of the book and are struggling to get through this. The narrator does not read as though he is part of the story. It's robotic at times and seems as if he is encountering words for the first time and just taking a stab at how to pronounce them. When he said the word "nada" and Hercules we had to cut the recording off and laugh outloud. My son wants me to purchase the hardcopy so he can read it. We enjoy Rick Riordan, but if Joshua Swanson is the narrator for any more of his books we will pass.

Loved the book. After the wild ride of 9 Dragons, I needed to settle down.
I like the way the story was told from both Harry's and Mikey's point of view.
Lou Cariou did not narrate this one, and that was the only setback for me (-one Star). I like it when a story is told by the same narrator especially if they are good.

Not the ending we want, but is it what we need?
Revisado: 09-19-10
I have read the reviews for this book and I am saddened by the negative points of view since this is the end of the series, and everyone can't be satisfied.
Every story can't have the ending that we want and I believe that Ms. Collins stayed with what really could happen in this type of society ravaged by war and pure greed. I took this as a lesson for "here and now" and discussed the negative elements with my 12 year old on how greed and arrogance can go terribly wrong.
I believe that the book covers HOPE in the ending and remember let's teach our children to love and not hate, exercise tolerance of others that are different because in the end we all do the same thing. Die.
Read the book and don't think of an ending you would like, but accept the one the author wrote for us. Myself I wish there could have been more or maybe a branchoff of the offspring from this society.
