Grew up in South Florida where Id see Lolita at least once a year, I remember the first time I thought to myself, hmmm her tank is actually pretty small for her size, so I stopped going, that was over 10 years ago now. But I never stopped thinking about her and following her story. But theres was actually a lot I didn’t know, and this podcast taught me a lot about her story. Even 10, 20, or 50 years from now I believe this podcast will be just as good a listen. Bonnie did an amazing job. Brought me to tears and had me contemplating a lot throughout the episodes.

Historia
Humpback whales are among the most intelligent animals on Earth. Some scientists believe they might even surpass humans in self-awareness, empathy, and communication skills. In this episode, we swim with a whale as he teams up with other humpbacks to use bubbles to catch fish, rescues a sea lion, and puts his own spin on melodies sung by whales across the Pacific Ocean. This is the world in its natural state, defined by seasons, routines, and cycles. By the time this whale is ready to close one eye and go to sleep, you will be too.

I grew up in south Florida and have seen Lolita as well as all the orcas at Seaworld Orlando many times. I now have lived in Alaska for the past 3 years (took a job transfer cause it was always my dream to see orcas in the wild) and now that I have seen lots of orcas in the wild my opinion on captivity is forever changed. I appreciate the aquariums for igniting that love in my childhood heart, but hearing how it all started back in the 60s and 70s is so heartbreaking, I was in tears many times listening to this.

Great christmasy book, the beginning had me crying. Reminded me a lot of Toy Story but more fantasy like. I very much enjoyed the sound effects and full cast narration.

Narrator changes her voice for all the different characters, makes it easier to follow. I live in Alaska, which has very similar landscape and cultures. Thoroughly enjoyed this story.
