Historia
Hidden away near the end of Long Island, New York, is a community where affluent African Americans, their friends, and the wannabes have secretly vacationed for more than 75 years. Unlike the bluffs of Martha’s Vineyard, black folks here own five miles of prime beachfront. With a mix of legacy families, new money, hangers-on, and thirsty developers, drama can never be far behind in a place called...the BLACK HAMPTONS.

Loretha Curry’s life is full. A little crowded sometimes, but full indeed. On the eve of her 68th birthday, she has a booming beauty-supply empire, a gaggle of lifelong friends, and a husband whose moves still surprise. True, she’s carrying a few more pounds than she should be, but Loretha is not one of those women who think her best days are behind her - and she’s determined to prove wrong her mother, her twin sister, and everyone else with that outdated view of aging wrong. It’s not all downhill from here.

Book is boring . It should have a minus star
Revisado: 04-18-20
I might have enjoyed the book if there was a different narrator. Terry McMillan need to hire a professional narrator. McMillam speaks in a monotone voice which is boring and that makes the book very hard to listen to. Please hire a professional to narrate or stick to print ONLY

Who wrote this book
Revisado: 07-28-16
What disappointed you about Every Woman's Dream?
I don't believe Mary Monroe wrote this book, it was one of the slowest reads that I've come across in years. I did not finish the book, and I tried very hard in hopes that it would get better. I got to chapter 19 and could not take any more so I discontinued the read.
Has Every Woman's Dream turned you off from other books in this genre?
Not in this genre, but it will be awhile before I spend money on another Mary Monroe book.
What didn’t you like about the narrators’s performance?
The voice were dramaless (if that's a word). squeeky and very displeasing to the ear.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Every Woman's Dream?
I would have taken out chapters 2-18
Any additional comments?
I thought the book was horrible, please go back to your original style of writing

Historia
One of the most remarkable autobiographies of our time, Manchild in the Promised Land is a seminal work of modern literature published during a literary era marked by the ascendance of black writers like Richard Wright, Ralph Ellison, James Baldwin, and Alex Haley. This thinly fictionalized account of Claude Brown’s childhood as a hardened, streetwise criminal trying to survive the toughest streets of Harlem has been heralded as the definitive account of everyday life for African Americans raised in the northern ghettos of the 1940s and ’50s.

Nothing Finished
Revisado: 02-26-13
What would have made The Twelve Tribes of Hattie (Oprah's Book Club 2.0) better?
If I could have known what happened to the children as thay became adults. Like the baby by Lawrence, what became of her. It's as if all were crazy and had several problems. To me it seemed like the book was abridged and not unabridged.
Would you ever listen to anything by Ayana Mathis again?
Probably
Which scene was your favorite?
None of scene was very memorable for me, usually I can remember the characters names but about the only name I remember is Hattie.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Twelve Tribes of Hattie (Oprah's Book Club 2.0)?
I really don't remember to many scenes, maybe the one when Hattie left with the baby

Boring
Revisado: 12-21-12
Would you try another book from Lutishia Lovely and/or Corey Allen?
Probably not. I had a hard time getting into her book Mind Your Own Business and an even harder time trying to get into this book, I probably will not finish this book.
Would you ever listen to anything by Lutishia Lovely again?
Maybe but not too soon.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Corey Allen speaks in a monotone voice which makes it hard to listen to him. Actually his reading is one of the reasons that the book was so boring.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
None that I can see.
Any additional comments?
There are way to many key characters (Adam, Ace, Judge, Kiesha, Sterling, Diane, Quintin, Candance, Abernathy, Joyce, Zavier, Bianaca, Bobby, Chardonay her two kids, Shala, Malcom, Cooper, Jeff, Tousan, Marcus, Marietta, Booker, Zoe, Evelyn) just to name a few. It was too hard trying to keep up with all of the different characters.
