I was intrigued from the start. Family secrets, traditions, heartache, drama....everything in this book was riveting. I cried, laughed, applauded and most importantly, connected with the characters. Black Cake is a book to sink into.

Stoked for this podcast. I so enjoyed her books that I gave them as gifts (trying to enlighten my people). She is genuine and makes a lot of sense. I learned so much and wish I had this knowledge earlier, but wisdom does indeed come with age.

Great King Story

This was very entertaining. Kids in danger always pulls at the emotions. The narrator was fantastic, one of the best I've heard on an audio book. I highly recommend.

I liked the book, but didn't love it as much as I did King's Billy Summers. Just as I've heard that real children's fairytales were originally terrifying, so was this book. I liked Charlie, the hero of the tale, whose thoughts on bigotry and other social issues were on point. I couldn't help but wish that everyone thought as he did, but sadly, this is truly the stuff of make-believe! I read an online review that was critical of King's physical transformation of the hero when he enters the other world. Without giving anything away, I disagreed with this critic as I see the transformation for what it was - another way to remind the reader that this is a fairytale. A great many of those old tales followed a format, especially when describing heroes or heroines. I did like the performances and loved that King played a part in the audio. This book was not my favorite, but it was still a good read.

I liked reading about the world of the others. I didn't care for the humans in this book. Even Vicky got on my nerves at times.

Wanted to love it, on!y liked it

This book started out fine, but as I kept reading I got less interested in the story. The narrator did a great job. There was lots of humor, racy scenes and racy language (no problem with that), but I still felt only lukewarm about the main characters. I actually liked their "animals" more.

Good story, frustrating main character

I started out liking this book, but didn't care for the tone of the narrator. She had an odd angry cadence throughout the entire book. I found the main character to be naive one minute, then frustratingly righteous the next.

Riveting!!

Such a great book and an even better audiobook. Thoroughly entertaining. Every major and minor character was so enjoyable. The 🎶 set the stage for this book. I will be reading Part 2 soon.

Liked this book though it was definitely a teaser for the next one. Sexy Kieran, a semi-final with a heart, complicated....makes for an intriguing character.
