Historia
After eighty years of fragile peace, the Architects are back, wreaking havoc as they consume entire planets. In the past, Originator artifacts—vestiges of a long-vanished civilization—could save a world from annihilation. This time, the Architects have discovered a way to circumvent these protective relics. Suddenly, no planet is safe. Facing impending extinction, the Human Colonies are in turmoil. While some believe a unified front is the only way to stop the Architects, others insist humanity should fight alone.

COMPLAINTS TO AUDIBLE
Revisado: 12-02-24
1. Business practice: I had placed this recording in my library, after which you changed its status and decided to charge me.
2. Defective recording: The recording itself has so many flaws that parts are hard to follow. Many repeated sections. Try listening to the Kris’s duel. I downloaded this twice and the errors were the same.
None of these are author’s or performer’s fault.

Historia
Michael Crichton, creator of Jurassic Park, ER, Twister, and Westworld, had a passion project he’d been pursuing for years, ahead of his untimely passing in 2008. Knowing how special it was, his wife, Sherri Crichton, held back his notes and the partial manuscript until she found the right author to complete it: James Patterson, the world’s most popular storyteller.

Good but not as great as either author’s best work
Revisado: 07-04-24
It was fascinating to experience the work of two such talented authors. Unfortunately, because of Crichton’s death, their work occurred serially rather than in parallel.
Much that could be exciting occurs, and the novel is moderately successful in this regard.
However, the scope of plot has substantial limitations. The central weakness is that the core element of the plot, which is geological, necessarily progresses in such a predictable and inevitable way, allowing the authors only to dance around the subplots involving human nature and its approach to group problem solving (i.e., politics).
Crichton’s typically strict approach to fundamental scientific accuracy has become a bit blurred in this book. The rationale for a lone volcano potentially leading to the end of virtually all life on earth is flawed and unsatisfying. Moreover, the idea of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is unrealistic, overblown, and even a bit laughable.
The narration is good, but is not the best I’ve heard. The narrator is just that, a narrator. He has few flaws in technique and pronunciation, but he fails to give characters different voices or personalities and adds less to the text than many actor/narrators.
I miss Chricht

Historia
Ragle Gumm has a unique job: Every day he wins a newspaper contest. And when he isn’t consulting his charts and tables, he enjoys his life in a small town, in 1959. At least, that’s what he thinks. But then strange things start happening. He finds a phone book where all the numbers have been disconnected, and a magazine article about a famous starlet named Marilyn Monroe, whom he’s never heard of. Plus, everyday objects are beginning to disappear and are replaced by strips of paper with words written on them, like "bowl of flowers" and "soft-drink stand".

Great mid-20th century SciFi Novel
Revisado: 01-27-23
A classic plot and themes that have echoed forward to many, more recently published science fiction novels. Part of the appeal of this particular book for me lies in the fact that I was a child in the 1950’s and lived in the world described. Dick’s writing style may seem too simple and straightforward for some, but I like that style and the rectilinear unfolding of events. Definitely recommended for fans of “classic” or early modern science fiction.

At first, sounds loud and trite,
Revisado: 11-07-21
But the further you read, the greater the amusement, shock value, and allegory combine into an unusually piquant literary experience. Basically, I liked it a lot.

Minor Departure from Reality; Impressive Speculations
Revisado: 06-06-20
What could arise from a dream containing 108 points of “future history?” A whole lot, it turns out, in this readable but not overly simple novel with an appropriate division of cogitation and action. The storyline is sufficiently compelling to maintain the reader’s interest from beginning to end. One wonders about the author’s interest in a sequel.

Pleasant storyline.
Rather obvious vocabulary placement. This book might help someone about to take the SAT.
However, many important aspects of the novelist’s craft are absent.
