Historia
Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again.... The novel begins in Monte Carlo, where our heroine is swept off her feet by the dashing widower Maxim de Winter and his sudden proposal of marriage. Orphaned and working as a lady's maid, she can barely believe her luck. So out datedAnd sexist, but..
Revisado: 11-02-19
It’s a pretty good page turner. Of coarse women are treated and think of themselves as
“Pets”. But if you can get over that it’s pretty entertaining.
I can’t say anything else without spoiling it.

Historia
A modern classic, Housekeeping is the story of Ruth and her younger sister, Lucille, who grow up haphazardly, first under the care of their competent grandmother, then of two comically bumbling great-aunts, and finally of Sylvie, their eccentric and remote aunt. The family house is in the small Far West town of Fingerbone, set on a glacial lake, the same lake where their grandfather died in a spectacular train wreck and their mother drove off a cliff to her death.

Historia
Part epic of Texas, part classic coming-of-age story, part unflinching examination of the bloody price of power, The Son is a gripping and utterly transporting novel that maps the legacy of violence in the American west with rare emotional acuity, even as it presents an intimate portrait of one family across two centuries. Eli McCullough is just twelve-years-old when a marauding band of Comanche storm his Texas homestead and brutally murder his mother and sister, taking him as a captive.

Epic Texas Saga!
Revisado: 12-04-16
Great new American author writing books that can stand hold their own with "lonesome dove" or "horseman pass by" great great epic! So glad I gave this one a listen. The narration and production were off the hook as well. Can't wait to read more by Philipp Meyer!

Moments after Lisbeth is born, she’s taken from her mother and handed over to an enslaved wet nurse, Mattie, a young mother separated from her own infant son in order to care for her tiny charge. Thus begins an intense relationship that will shape both of their lives for decades to come. Though Lisbeth leads a life of privilege, she finds nothing but loneliness in the company of her overwhelmed mother and her distant, slave-owning father.

Should be labeled as young adult.
Revisado: 11-19-16
Really sappy and dumb. Making light of slavery and over simplifying the institution might be ok if introducing the subject to 7 year olds. It is insulting in adult literature. Listen to Toni Morrison's "Beloved again instead.

Good story, god aweful narration
Revisado: 02-08-15
Oh I wish they would have sprung for a professional narrator. The authors voice and her impression
of a polish accent is enough to make your ears bleed. Is was practically unlistenable. And the way the author insinuates herself into the importance of this story is enough to make you wretch.
Really horrible performance. If there is ever a book on knitting or casserole making,
the author maybe could read that outloud to her stupid cat. But that's about all I would grant her.

When Mr. Earnshaw brings a black-haired foundling child into his home on the Yorkshire moors, he little imagines the dramatic events which will follow. The passionate relationship between Cathy Earnshaw and the foundling, Heathcliff, is a story of love, hate, pity, and retribution, the effects of which reverberate throughout the succeeding generations.

Historia
In a rich and riveting narrative, Jane Dunn reveals the extraordinary rivalry between the regal cousins. It is the story of two queens ruling on one island, each with a claim to the throne of England, each embodying dramatically opposing qualities of character, ideals of womanliness (and views of sexuality), and divinely ordained kingship.

great book
Revisado: 05-08-08
I loved this book it showed the very human sides of these two icons. My only criticism would be that it ended at the death of Mary . I wanted to hear the details of Elizabeth's later years. All in all though its very much worth a listen.
