Historia
Every Day Is Extra is Kerry’s passionate, insightful, sometimes funny, always moving account of his life. Kerry tells wonderful stories about colleagues Ted Kennedy and John McCain, as well as President Obama and other major figures. He writes movingly of recovering his faith while in the Senate, and deplores the hyper-partisanship that has infected Washington. Few books convey as convincingly as this one the life of public service like that which John Kerry has lived for 50 years.

Kerry is a man of integrity
Revisado: 12-08-18
I really enjoyed this memoir of John Kerry's life. He is a man of principle and integrity. He acknowledges his mistakes and shortfalls while learning from them in an effort to continue the fight. His recounting of his early privileged childhood, to his days at boarding school to his Vietnam experience feel truthful and certainly shaped who he is as a man. The stories about his time in the US Senate stress the importance of relationship building and learning from his seniors. These lessons served him well as secretary of state and his amazing work on the Iran treaty along with the climate accord. It will be interesting to see what this courageous man does with his extra days.

Historia
Are leaders born or made? Where does ambition come from? How does adversity affect the growth of leadership? Does the man make the times or do the times make the man? In Leadership, Goodwin draws upon four of the presidents she has studied most closely - Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Lyndon B. Johnson (in civil rights) - to show how they first recognized leadership qualities within themselves, and were recognized by others as leaders.

What makes a president great?

Another Kearns Goodwin masterpiece
Revisado: 11-30-18
DKG has completed a true masterpiece at a time in our history that could not be more appropriate. She provides an accessible account of each of these four presidents that recounts their characteristics, the struggles, their ambition and the traits that propel them to truly great accomplishments. Her technique of dividing their stories up into these categories and comparing or juxtaposing makes each leader rise up. The narrations for each president only enliven the story. A great read by a true historian.

Historia
Joe Allston is a retired literary agent who is, in his own words, "killing time before time gets around to killing me." His parents and his only son are long dead, leaving him with neither ancestors nor descendants, tradition nor ties. His job, trafficking the talent of others, had not been his choice. He passes through life as a spectator. But a postcard from a friend causes him to return to the journals of a trip he had taken years before.

Another Stegner Beauty
Revisado: 05-07-18
Stegner reflects on life and aging in this story of travel to Denmark with his wife. He has a remarkable way of recounting truth and reflection of marriage, relationships in all its raw honesty and pain. I never tire of his writing and Edward Hermann reads his work beautifully. This story is not at the level of Crossing to Safety or Angle of Repose but Stegner is a wonderful writer.

Terrific summary of the Trump-Russian connection
Revisado: 03-21-18
What made the experience of listening to Russian Roulette the most enjoyable?
Corn and Isikoff have done a great job researching and explaining this convoluted and unfathomable story of Trump's connection to Russia and Putin regime. They take this right up to the present and corroborate many of the recent stories in the New Yorker and other publications. The narator does great job pronouncing the Russian names and locales.
What other book might you compare Russian Roulette to and why?
Jane Mayer's recent article in the New Yorker on the Steele Dossier
Have you listened to any of Peter Ganim’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
not that I am aware of

Historia
Ulysses S. Grant's life has typically been misunderstood. All too often he is caricatured as a chronic loser and an inept businessman or as the triumphant but brutal Union general of the Civil War. But these stereotypes don't come close to capturing him, as Chernow reveals in his masterful biography, the first to provide a complete understanding of the general and president whose fortunes rose and fell with dizzying speed and frequency.

Historia
Wallace Stegner's uniquely American classic centers on Lyman Ward, a noted historian who relates a fictionalized biography of his pioneer grandparents at a time when he has become estranged from his own family. Through a combination of research, memory, and exaggeration, Ward voices ideas concerning the relationship between history and the present, art and life, parents and children, and husbands and wives.
