I enjoyed the story. The twist was a little obvious but it was entertaining and fast moving.

95 percent Good Story. 5 percent Trashy Romance.
Revisado: 08-16-24
I enjoy Heather Graham's books. They are not super challenging but they are easy and entertaining. She fills them with legends and historical information about the location of the story and I always come away knowing new things about places in America.
The unfortunatel part for me is the inevitable romance. The blokes are all manly and slightly sexist. The heroines are all beautiful and tough but despite disliking the hero on meeting they are always mysteriously attracted. His gruff exterior melts to show a heart of gold and blah, blah, blah you get the idea.
I'd have put a spoiler warning but since the story never changes I don't think I will be spoiling it for you.
I'm sure many people love the romantic side plots and they contribute a lot to the book sales. Personally they are too corny for me and every one follows the same path. I'd love it if just for once, one of these forceful women would be ugly, or tell the slightly sexist but all round masculine hero to get bent and stop telling her to get behind him, or just tell him 6ft 4 tough guys with hidden depths aren't her type.
It doesn't spoil the books for me overall. That's what the skip button is for I guess. At 5 percent of the story I can ignore it. If it ever gets closer to 20 percent then I will be reading something else.

Historia
I was dreading the Cunningham family reunion even before the first murder. Before the storm stranded us at the mountain resort, snow and bodies piling up. The thing is, us Cunninghams don't really get along. We've only got one thing in common: we've all killed someone.

Funny, Observant and Perceptive Murder Comedy about Family Reunions.
Revisado: 01-09-24
This book is an easy read that is Individual and surprisingly subtle for all the laughs.
It is enjoyable, but surprisingly dark. The mystery is good, the writing format is very unique and it is not at all dull.
It is funny, snarky and poses the important question: when faced with the horror of an inescapable, week long family reunion, is the prospect of being murdered the worst thing that can happen?

Historia
In this definitive expose, Walkley-award winning journalist Debi Marshall turns her investigative blowtorch to the shocking Adelaide Family murders and to secrets long hidden in the City of Corpses. This chilling account begins with the liberalisation of South Australia under the premiership of Don Dunstan and demands answers to decades-old questions. Who were the Family killers? Why are suppression orders still protecting suspects four decades later? Why do some of these serial killings remain unsolved? Only one suspect, Bevan Spencer Von Einem, has been charged and convicted.

Stunning expose of an unthinkable series of crimes
Revisado: 04-16-22
Debi Marshall produces some fascinating and sometimes stomach churningly detailed studies of crimes and she doesn't pull any punches. Simultaneously fascinating and grueling the true horror comes not from the graphic details but from her unsensationalist exploration of the victim's families sorrow and ongoing struggles for justice.
Rather than the 30 minute shallow rehash many crimes are told in , this is a deep dive into true evil, the incredible tragedy of young people murdered and the hollow, breathtaking price their families pay.
Marshall is herself a victims family member. Her partner was murdered and she had a long and scary journey in search of justice. Her books dive deep into not just the graphic details but the sorrow and squalor behind them.
The tragedy is tangible and will stay with you. The perpetrators will make you want to punch something and the corruption and cynicism of the powerful people who ensured that most of the people involved were never punished will make you really, really angry.
Fascinating, scary and perhaps most disturbing of all, a chronicle of the real cost of murder, this book really stayed with me. Marshall said that by the end she felt she may actually be suffering from PTSD from writing this book. Having read it I know what she means.
This is Really True Crime. Not a sensational and graphic snippet of horror stories. This is the brutal, senseless cruelty of the perpetrators. The sheer waste and tragedy of the victims and the ongoing experience of grief and frustration the families will never escape. Her final analysis of the of the only convicted perpetrator will leave you breathless. This stayed with me long after I finished it.
A brilliant and intellectual study of the tragedy this case was. Be warned this is never gratuitous but it is a dark story and Marshall provides a very deep dive into a truly terrible time. It will stay with you on a personal level.
Brilliant.

It isn't easy, being a teenage pharaoh. You're not allowed to carry money, uninhibited young women peel your grapes for you, everyone thinks you're responsible for making the sun rise and the corn grow, you keep dreaming about seven thin cows and seven fat cows (one of them playing the trombone), and on top of everything else, the Great Pyramid has just exploded because of paracosmic instability.
