Historia
The struggle between Rome and Carthage in the Punic Wars was arguably the greatest and most desperate conflict of antiquity. The forces involved and the casualties suffered by both sides were far greater than in any wars fought before the modern era, while the eventual outcome had far-reaching consequences for the history of the Western World, namely the ascendancy of Rome. An epic of war and battle, this is also the story of famous generals and leaders: Hannibal, Fabius Maximus, Scipio Africanus, and his grandson Scipio Aemilianus, who would finally bring down the walls of Carthage.

Very Good if you like this history.
Revisado: 05-06-25
Massive amount of information. Just as the title states. It is a very good performance involving this most academic of topics.
If you want to understand warfare in this time and place in detail this is a great book. It’s not a glossy overview of the subject.

David M. Potter's Pulitzer Prize-winning The Impending Crisis is the definitive history of antebellum America. Potter's sweeping epic masterfully charts the chaotic forces that climaxed with the outbreak of the Civil War: westward expansion, the divisive issue of slavery, the Dred Scott decision, John Brown's uprising, the ascension of Abraham Lincoln, and the drama of Southern secession.

Excellent book and content
Revisado: 04-13-25
I really did like the book. The detail and coherence of the narrative was impressive. Only a note. You probably have to be interested in details of this particular historical time. It is a detailed review but the author and narrator keep the information moving along. I personally liked a 1.1 playback speed.

Historia
In this definitive biography, renowned Bible scholar, Anglican bishop, and best-selling author N. T. Wright offers a radical look at the apostle Paul, illuminating the humanity and remarkable achievements of this intellectual who invented Christian theology - transforming a faith and changing the world. For centuries, Paul, the apostle who "saw the light on the Road to Damascus" and made a miraculous conversion from zealous Pharisee persecutor to devoted follower of Christ, has been one of the church's most widely cited saints.

Highly recommend. Take it easy and listen to it as you read the scripture NT Wright is discussing. You may not see everything he sees but he explains his views well.

A story told like only a fine author can do. Relating the facts of a tragic event, minus any moralizing or pushing an agenda. I had not found many good books lately but this book cured that. Great job.

Historia
This book is about an idea - namely, that Scripture mandates a Jewish return to the historical region of Palestine - which in turn morphed into a political movement, rallied around a popular slogan ("A country without a nation for a nation without a country"), and eventually contributed to the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948. Christian Zionism continues to influence global politics, especially US foreign policy, and has deeply affected Jewish-Christian and Muslim-Christian relations.

Excellent book
Revisado: 10-18-24
Very important book for all, but especially for a modern Christian. It’s been confusing for me in the last 20 years or so to get a grasp on what I should believe in regard to support for Israel in my Christian life. This book provides a massive amount of background and current information on that topic. I liked that the book was very neutral on emotion. Talks directly to the subject matter. This isn’t an apology for Israeli actions nor an apology for Christian evangelicals and their beliefs. It’s a fact filled description of Christian Zionism and how it’s been developed over the years. I really enjoyed the book. A bit long but that’s a small matter.

Great Book
Revisado: 10-14-24
Loved the book, mostly. I believe the information could have been presented in a shorter listen.
That said, the information was very good. The analysis of all the political players was extensive yet in reality, it is Islams death wish for Judaism and Christianity, that forms a basis of it all.
Looking back a lot of what the writer had hoped for in 2015 didn’t come to pass, and in the end we had Oct 7th, complements of the Obama administration and the EU believing money would be put to peaceful use by Iran. The analysis of Hezbollah papers found in the Gaza tunnels will be a great benefit to the re editing of this book or others down the road.

Historia
It was supposed to be a moment of great optimism, a cause for jubilation. The Congo was at last being set free from Belgium—one of seventeen countries to gain independence in 1960 from ruling European powers. At the helm as prime minister was charismatic nationalist Patrice Lumumba. Just days after the handover, however, the Congo’s new army mutinied, Belgian forces intervened, and Lumumba turned to the United Nations for help in saving his newborn nation from what the press was already calling “the Congo crisis.”

Interesting story
Revisado: 10-04-24
Loved the first half or so. Seemed like it got into the weeds a lot when it wasn’t necessary. Pretty straightforward story that could have been told quicker. But, that said, you do learn a lot about why the Congo is as it is today. It wasn’t only the colonial issue that decimated the region. Too many divided interests and absolutely no ability to compromise and cooperate. Lumumba himself is an interesting man, the book did a good job of presenting his many sides. Good read, but a little long in my view.

Historia
Mystery Babylon is an in-depth look at the prophecy of Revelation 17 and 18. Richardson dissects the longest prophecy in the New Testament in order to make sense of these deeply elusive and profoundly controversial passages. At once a queen, a prostitute, and a cold-blooded killer, this great harlot waves a golden cup filled with blood. Adorned in purple and scarlet and gold and precious stones, she seduces the kings of the earth with luxury.

Very good book
Revisado: 09-28-24
Another good book by Joel Richardson. I did not draw the same conclusions of his in all areas. It seems a lot of times like his views are 2 plus 2 equals 6. Reading the applicable chapters in his presentations seems to me to not be as airtight a conclusion as he presents.
The book is long and could be summarized a lot quicker.

Twenty-five years after its original publication, Slave Religion remains a classic in the study of African American history and religion. Using a variety of first and secondhand sources - some objective, some personal, all riveting - Raboteau analyzes the transformation of the African religions into evangelical Christianity. He presents the narratives of the slaves themselves, as well as missionary reports, travel accounts, folklore, Black autobiographies, and the journals of White observers to describe the day-to-day religious life in the slave communities.

good info, but long.
Revisado: 09-14-24
The information in the book was very good. I liked the layout as the book progressed. very good narrator, kept my interest.
my only negative is it seems long. what could have been said in 5 minutes was said in 30.. so, I skipped forward sometimes, really not missing anything.
also, the chapters could have been briefer, keeping any sense of dragging.
but overall a ood book to read.

Long, Long, and Long
Revisado: 08-10-24
If you are a historian of the middle ages, this may be your ticket. A personal, family lineage type description of the 100 years war and more. The story is outstanding, but man, is it long.
I only wish there was a way to zero in on some historical time frame and listen bit by bit. But in the audio format it's only numerically labled.. all 70 plus of them.
Again, a great story, but you need a lot of patience listen day after day.
