Strevens gives a strong and historically well illustrated account of the development of modern science. His claim is that science took so long to fully develop because it requires a type of irrationality - an unreasonable narrowing of thought. As far as it goes, the book is strong and enjoyable to read. My main complaint is that Strevens does little to clarify other types of reasoning and where they might play an important role that science alone cannot fulfill.

Clear and easy to follow summary of highlights of the latest science of emotion regulation by leading psychologist. The book ends with practical suggestions. My only critique is that the premise of the book is that emotion regulation is almost exclusively verbal in nature. That premise is flawed but fortunately the science and advice given does not depend upon it.

The book moves right along with lots of fun and touching stories, and you can learn a fair amount about therapy as you go.

Good review of current science of how we evolved, but lacked compelling quality of Harrari's Sapiens. The author's voice is that of a fun but slightly smug and preachy professor directing his cute jokes and slightly patronizing admonishments at undergraduates

A very important book which separates the overhyped nonsense about meditation and mindfulness from what is reasonable to currently conclude on the basis of science. This book is essential for anyone interested in teaching or merely having their own true evidence based mindfullness practice. Also, the history is fascinating and the book could not have a more reputable pair of authors. They were there from the start of the science of meditation and are very accomplished in their own rights as a research scientist and as a science journalist. My only quiblle is that Goleman's narration wasnt that lively and even seemed to get emphasis wrong at points. Not a bad performance but not the brilliant performance I expected.
