Historia
Emma Carpenter lives in isolation with her golden retriever Laika, house-sitting an old beachfront home on the rainy Washington coast. Her only human contact is her enigmatic old neighbor, Deek, and (via text) the house’s owner, Jules. One day, she reads a poorly written—but gruesome—horror novel by the author H. G. Kane, and posts a one-star review that drags her into an online argument with none other than the author himself. Soon after, disturbing incidents start to occur at night.

Not a formulaic thriller!
Revisado: 11-26-23
It took me a bit to get into this novel, but once I did it had me gripped. It was different than any other thriller I have read, and I have read many. There were lots of twists and turns that kept me guessing. The narrators were very good.

Not her best
Revisado: 11-15-23
This was just ok. I've listened to, and enjoyed, several of her other novels, so hopefully this is just a one off. The antagonists were written as to be indistinguishable from one another, making it difficult to follow at times. I did not enjoy the narration. The 2 main characters are from Minnesota but, for some reason, they were voiced with a mild southern accent.

Monotonous and boring!
Revisado: 02-08-23
The narrator did as much with the book as she could but the story was so boring and the scenes were basically the same thing over and over. I'm sure the author was trying to build suspense but the first half of the book could have been condensed into an hour. There is no character development and they all seem one dimensional. I've read my share of horror novels and this one wasn't scary in the least. I finally had to quit listening; I couldn't take the repetition anymore. Too bad I purchased it.

Historia
In A Scattered Life, Karen McQuestion proves to be an adept chronicler of unforgettable female characters. Poignantly written, she thoughtfully examines how women love, learn, and come to accept themselves and others, as well as life’s often harsh realities of deception and loss. Skyla Plinka has all she could ask for - at least that’s what her mother-in-law Audrey thinks. On most days, Skyla agrees, yet there’s a part of her that longs for her free-spirited days before husband, child, and the humdrum life of rural Wisconsin.

Narration too sing song for serious story matter
Revisado: 02-07-23
The story was nothing exciting but did portray women's lives and struggles fairly accurately. The narration made me want to stop listening on several occasions.

Nice twists!
Revisado: 10-24-22
Usually I figure out the twists and turns well ahead of time but this one was more unexpected! The story is original and kept me engaged most of the time. The narrator did a good job bringing the story to life but his voice sounds more like a man in his 40s or 50s rather than one in his late 20s, which was a distraction for me.

Predictable and unbelievable
Revisado: 05-10-22
The story followed a completely predictable path and gave an unbelievable picture of the foster system. It felt like a fluff story. The male narrator was completely wrong for the story as everything came out sounding sarcastic. I don't feel that this one is worth a credit.

Historia
In The Keeper of Lost Causes, Jussi Adler-Olsen introduced Detective Carl Mørck, a deeply flawed, brilliant detective newly assigned to run Department Q, the home of Copenhagen’s coldest cases. The result wasn’t what Mørck - or readers - expected, but by the opening of Adler-Olsen’s shocking, fast-paced follow-up, Mørck is satisfied with the notion of picking up long-cold leads. So he’s naturally intrigued when a closed case lands on his desk: A brother and sister were brutally murdered two decades earlier....

Narration makes the story less enjoyable
Revisado: 02-15-22
I saw reviews in which people loved the narration. I couldn't disagree more. The narrator uses the same voice for all of the characters, making it difficult to follow the story. I'm only about 4 hours into The Absent One and I look forward to finishing it so I can move on to the next one. The story would be far more interesting with a different narrator, especially when compared to the first Department Q novel.

Great story and even better narration
Revisado: 01-20-22
This second volume of the Dark Tower series is much better than the first one. So much ground work was laid in the first one that it got a bit tedious. King's ability to take a good story idea and really bring it to life starts to shine in this volume. As always, Frank Muller takes a Stephen King novel takes it to a whole new level! He makes the different voices and accents sound effortless while he helps the listener to fall right into the story.

I really liked Ms Hawker's two previous novels but
Revisado: 01-02-22
The story idea was an interesting one, but the end product had some problems. I feel like this novel should have been listed as a YA novel. I don't have a problem with reading YA occasionally, but it was unexpected. A big problem for me was the contradiction in parts of the story and in some of the characters actions/ways of thinking. It felt like it was a lazy way to build suspense and/or explain new parts of the story. The narration was very slow but improved somewhat when I increased the speed to about 1.20.

Don't believe the negative reviews
Revisado: 11-24-21
There is a good deal of information about ancient Egypt, but it is worked beautifully into the lives of two of the main characters. The language is exquisite which gives life to the characters. Lest you think that the story is only a study of ancient Egypt, it is also about relationships and the people in them, and about how the relationships change or work together; about how individuals sometimes lose their own self in relationships. The writing lays bare the raw emotions of characters who only want to do the right thing. The narration is excellent. I would recommend this novel.
