Very hard to understand
Revisado: 08-03-24
The story was interesting. The voices were well done but it was just too hard to understand exactly what was going on. The sound effects added nothing to the production were just confusing. Voice quality varied throughout.

Historia
An internationally famous photographer, Tucker Mason has traveled the world, capturing things other people don't see. But what Tucker himself can’t see is how to let go of the past and forgive his father. On a sprawling Southern estate, Tucker and his younger brother, Mutt, were raised by their housekeeper, Miss Ella Rain, who loved the motherless boys like her own. Hiring her to take care of Waverly Hall and the boys was the only good thing their father ever did.

Fantastic narration and descriptions
Revisado: 05-02-24
This book was beautifully written and the author and narrator made you feel like you were there. The story was interesting but had more than a healthy dose of Christian religion thrown in.

Historia
Clay Edison has his hands full. He’s got a new baby who won't sleep. He’s working the graveyard shift. And he’s trying, for once, to mind his own business. Then comes the first call. Workers demolishing a local park have made a haunting discovery: the decades-old skeleton of a child. But whose? And how did it get there? No sooner has Clay begun to investigate than he receives a second call - this one from a local businessman, wondering if the body could belong to his sister.

Good story and great narration
Revisado: 03-21-24
I found this book very interesting. It incorporated scraps of historical reference that I love. The main character ferreted out bits and pieces of the story from old newspapers, records and interviews. I will look for other books by these authors. They wove his personal and work life into the investigation. Well done! Oh, and Dennis Boutsikaris always does a wonderful job with narration!

Historia
While studying wolverines on a wildlife sanctuary in Montana, biologist Alex Carter is run off the road and threatened by locals determined to force her off the land. Undeterred in her mission to help save this threatened species, Alex tracks wolverines on foot and by cameras positioned in remote regions of the preserve. But when she reviews the photos, she discovers disturbing images of an animal of a different kind: a severely injured man seemingly lost and wandering in the wilds.

One sided and ridiculous situation
Revisado: 03-21-24
Miss Henderson is a wildlife biologist and researcher and I would assume that she is very capable in that capacity. I appreciate her work to save wild life and the environment.
That said, she obviously has some rather prejudiced ideas about meat eaters and cattle ranchers. The situations in the book made no logical sense to me. And the main character made such stupid decisions, especially regarding her boyfriend that I just about didn’t make it through the book. And to make matters worse the author didn’t tie up loose ends, preferring to use them as incentive to read the next book the series. The narrator didn’t help matters any. She seemed to read the whole book in a panic. In the future I will avoid any novels read by Eva Kaminsky. And those written by Alice Henderson.

Revisado: 03-04-24
The story, as it unfolded wasn’t logical. Characters didn’t react as real people would, their reactions and reasoning was way over the top. And then there was the narration… lots of dialogue and voices are not her strong suit.

A perfect introduction for new listeners and a must-have for avid fans, this New York Times Notable Book includes "Bloodchild," winner of both the Hugo and the Nebula awards and "Speech Sounds," winner of the Hugo Award. Appearing in audio for the first time, "Amnesty" is a story of a woman named Noah who works to negotiate the tense and co-dependent relationship between humans and a species of invaders. Also new to this collection is "The Book of Martha" which asks: What would you do if God granted you the ability—and responsibility—to save humanity from itself?

A complete crime fiction box set! Homicide detective Thomas Prescott may be retired—but a serial killer, a high-profile murder, an ill-fated cruise, and a chilling small-town crime add more than enough excitement to his hard-earned rest. This collection includes the first four books: Unforeseen, Gray Matter, The Afrikaans, and Show Me.

Revisado: 12-24-23
Johnny Heller is a great narrator and Nick Pirog could be a great writer if he would bring down the sexist attitude just a notch or two. It ruined the books for me.

The Pandominion: a political and trading alliance of a million worlds–except that they’re really just the one world, Earth, in many different realities. And when an AI threat arises that could destroy everything the Pandominion has built, they'll eradicate it by whatever means necessary, no matter the cost to human life.

Yes! This one is great!
Revisado: 08-08-23
The book starts slow with a lot of technical gibberish and I had my doubts at first. And then...I fell into the story, never knowing where it is actually taking me- just like all Carey novels! He really knows how to develop a story. He builds a whole new "world" and somehow makes it all seem plausible. If you are into fantasy, or sci-fi then you will love it. But it goes so much deeper (as all his books seem to). As with the Koli books, he shows us relationships between "human" and AI. He also explores what it means to be a human. I couldn't help but think there is a lesson in there too, about sexual orientation (With the AI giving itself the pronoun of ET). I would love to participate in a discussion group on this book!
Oh! And the narration is wonderful! Dami Olukoya has such a rich, exotic voice and changes it just a bit for the different human species. I will look for more books that she reads, just for the joy of listening to that buttery smooth voice.

Nothing like "The last year of the War'.
Revisado: 08-08-23
The whole story depended on everyone withholding information for absolutely NO REASON. Absolutely ridiculous. The narrator's voice was much too "chipper" for the story, in my opinion. I barely made it through.
Not near the quality of writing as in her newer novel "The Last Year of the War".

Historia
Elise Sontag is a typical Iowa 14-year-old in 1943 - aware of the war but distanced from its reach. Then her father, a legal US resident for nearly two decades, is suddenly arrested on suspicion of being a Nazi sympathizer. The family is sent to an internment camp in Texas, where behind the armed guards and barbed wire, Elise feels stripped of everything beloved and familiar, including her own identity. The only thing that makes the camp bearable is meeting fellow internee Mariko Inoue, a Japanese-American teen from Los Angeles.
