Historia
After several months (and a few murders), Dash is finally starting to feel at home in Hastings Rock. He’s enjoying the quiet after the end of tourist season, he’s comfortable at Hemlock House (the jury is still out on whether it’s haunted), and most importantly, he has friends.

Can I move in too?!
Revisado: 12-15-24
I love the little found family that Gregory Ashe has built in this Last Picks crew. Their dynamic just keeps getting better with each book. This author is one of my favorites for his prose: so descriptive that I can sell Indira’s cooking and feel Millie’s loud exclamations. I don’t love slow burn, but dang if Mr. Ashe isn’t the king of writing it!😝

Historia
You can’t hide from the truth. And apparently, you can’t hide from your ex either. Dashiell Dawson Dane wants the simple things in life: to live in a (possibly) haunted mansion, to avoid socializing at all costs, and to write, and possibly finish, a book. Unfortunately, the real world has a way of intruding. And since unfinished manuscripts don’t pay the bills, he finds himself persuaded—against his better judgment—to rent out Hemlock House for a wedding. Having his ex-boyfriend, Hugo, arrive unexpectedly during the preparations is bad enough.

Cozy mystery . . . Ha!
Revisado: 09-03-24
I can’t decide if this is indeed a “cozy mystery” or brilliantly, an ironically dubbed “cozy mystery.” Either way, this is why I love Gregory Ashe! Always with a mystery, engaging (and flawed and funny and and) characters and the relationship angst that drives me towards therapy. It’s gonna be hard not to read the next ones while waiting for the audiobooks to release. This narrator, though, makes it worth it.

Engaging fantasy world!
Revisado: 06-19-24
I’ll admit that fantasy romance is not my jam. I downloaded this book for a book club at work. I appreciated the pull into another genre I rarely traverse. The narrator was perfect. The story perfectly engaging and descriptive enough to create the world in my mind’s eye.

Every victory comes at a cost. The trail has gone cold. For months now, Emery Hazard and John-Henry Somerset have been trying to find something—anything—that might help them uncover the truth about the criminal organization operating out of the Cottonmouth Club. Hurts so good!
Revisado: 04-27-24
Mr. Ashe pulled out all the feels for this final book wrapping up this series. Of course the mysteries are always engaging, but what I enjoyed most was the interaction between all the Hazardverse characters. Even when I wanted to cry or throw something, one of them managed to sneak in a chuckle! Bravo Gregory Ashe and Tristan James for his spot-on narrating.

Historia
When Theo and Auggie return home—safe and sound and miraculously alive after being dragged into a murder investigation—all Theo wants is for life to get back to normal. No more murders. No more investigations. Nothing, in other words, that might put Auggie in danger. But when a girl from school goes missing, Theo finds himself reluctantly drawn into looking for her. Shaniyah was his former student, for one reason. And, for another, no one else seems interested in where she’s gone. Worse, her disappearance seems to be linked to a break-in at Theo and Auggie’s house.

Rollercoaster!
Revisado: 03-04-24
Auggie sure has his hands full with that Theo! I wanna hug that man and smack him in equal measure. Gregory Ashe continues to wow me with his complex mysteries and the men who are working hard to solve them. Sprinkle in the relationship angst and I can’t stop listening to these books. Another thing I’m really enjoying is the interplay with all the couples. It’s like they’re all brothers within one big dysfunctional family. I know this scene was supposed to be serious but DYSON HAIRDRYER. Bwahahaha!
JF Harding is an artist. I find myself listening to books just because he’s the narrator. AI could NEVER do what this man can with a story. Bravo!

A Roller coaster ride!
Revisado: 12-23-23
Greg Tremblay narrated the hell outta this book! The characters are so distinct and he even nails the female voices.
Of course, I was anxiously awaiting this book! As always, Dr. Ashe bought us through the highs and the lows with a solid mystery to boot. This book really brought out the feels in me. Maybe it’s the holiday season, but I really felt it with this installment.

It’s like a family reunion!
Revisado: 11-08-23
I read through some of the other recent reviews and I acknowledge some points. Luckily for me, I’m able to submerge into a story without too much nitpicking and a suspension of disbelief. It’s a work of fiction. I don’t have to believe this all could be real and have everything link up perfectly. But I’m easy that way. I love the scenes, characters and interactions and as long as they stay true to their characters, I’m happy to be along for the ride. One of the things I love about this author is how he brings current events into his stories (MAGA and Tiger King anyone?😜)
I think the biggest adjustment for me is orienting myself to JF Harding’s interpretation of H and S since I listened to their all their many audiobooks. Harding is one of my favorite narrators so I didn’t have too much trouble. I didn’t listen to North and Shaw’s novels (though I did visually read them) so I didn’t have any concerns there.
This book is a solid Ashe mystery and I’m excited for the next one. Only question is, can I wait for the audiobook?😜

I’m not a re-reader but. . .
Revisado: 10-25-23
I had already read this book in print (digital?) format and usually, I would not revisit. However, Gregory Ashe is one of my favorite authors and JF Harding one of my favorite narrators. Together they have been magic. Still magic with this latest/last book of this series. The banter between the main characters is as entertaining as always. The pain with their relationship and personal struggles still makes my heart hurt. I especially enjoyed the ancillary characters in this book: Fer and Cart are priceless. And not least is the engaging mystery. And can I say how impressed I am with this author that he can weave Shakespeare into this story? That’s some next level writing, IMO.

Life is different for Jack Moreno. Good. Definitely good. Well, better, anyway. He’s back in school (although classes are harder than he expected). And his dad is healthy (which means he’s worrying again about things like Jack’s curfew and, oh yeah, grades).

Revisado: 06-30-23
I feel like I can take the review for book one and say ‘ditto’ for this one. Great story, mystery intriguing, enough angst, and the love story! Not a fan of the little cliff hanger at the end, but I already have the next book!🤣
Greg Tremblay is solid. Always get good reads from him, so I never worry when he’s the narrator.

Nice to meet you fellas!
Revisado: 06-20-23
Talented is an author who can create so many characters with completely different personalities. You would think that now that Mr. Ashe has written several series, the characters would blend like members of the same family. But no. The seemingly robotic façade of Holloway Holmes has become my new favorite iteration of the mystery-solver. As always, I was able to fall into the mystery with ease. I look forward to continuing down the sleuth-y path with these young fellas and, dare I hope, a new romance?
I’ve listened to this narrator many times in the past and he’s a solid listen every time.
