Historia
All Lady Victoria Kirby wants is to dig in the dirt, take notations, and record history, thank you very much. Bumbling through ballrooms and getting disdained by the ton for her less than ideal looks, on the other hand, is the last thing she wants. But her reckless father has a different idea for her future when he puts up the ultimate ante - her hand in marriage - and loses. Over her dead body.

Story was basically good. Narrator ruined it for me.
Revisado: 03-01-25
The story was somewhat good. A bit drawn out at times. But, it was hard to really tell about anything positive. The narrator was way off. I struggled to give it 3 stars.

Historia
Evie’s running away: from her soon-to-be ex-husband’s shiny new life, from the devastating loss of her baby last year, from a memory-filled London and, most particularly, from Christmas. A remote cottage in the South of France seems like the perfect peaceful place to soothe her sorrows. But the countryside soon proves anything but quiet, from the rooster crowing at dawn to the barn owl hooting through the night—not to mention Evie’s handsome neighbour, doctor Didier, who works away in his garage at all hours.

I cannot praise this book enough. It grabs you and all you can think about is getting back to it when you put it down. The narrator did a superb job especially with Alice’s voice. Heart wrenching at times. Don’t let this one pass you by. Thank you Kristin Hannah.

Every story was engaging. I loved that they all took place at the same Inn. I cannot say one was better than the other. They were all very good with the perfect narrator.

Narrator did an excellent job. Her pronunciation was spot on.
Revisado: 07-20-23
I don’t know why everyone is putting this narration down. This is a story taking place in England and the Colonies with English accents. Not French. I leaned the correct pronunciation of Beauchomp in Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series when it was explained on that TV series. And I’ll bet if you were in England and ask someone to pronounce Ruark they would pronounce it the way this narrator did. The pronunciation the negative reviewers want is the name Roark. That isn’t what KEW wrote. She wrote Ruark.
The real problem here ; THIS IS A WONDERFUL BOOK !!! Don’t make it where readers will not listen to it because of bad reviews. This is as good or better than all the top romance writers of the day. I’ll bet they all read it and it made an influence on the their writings.
Get this book it’s great! If you don’t, you’ll miss one of the best romance books of all times.

When I saw this book was narrated by Justin Eyre, I decided to give it a try.
It is a very entertaining listen, good story and was overall worth the time. A bit different than you regular historical romance.

My mother pasted away a couple of years ago and this book reminds me so much of her and her stories. The way she grew up during the depression and WWII on a 40 acre farm in southeastern Alabama. She would have loved it.
Beautifully written, and a story line that will stay with you forever. Thank you Delia Owens.

What happened???
Revisado: 05-09-22
I listen to a lot of historical romance books. This one was hard to get through My all time favorite book is one by this author. The Day of the Duchess. In it we meet the main characters of this book. The voices were perfection. I’m a great fan of Mary Jane Wells but Justine Eyre’s voice was perfect for these characters. So sad and disappointed that Sarah MacLean listen to a few reviews of a perfect book (Day of the Duchess) and switched narrators. It could have been another winner. I’m a sad and disappointed Sarah MacLean fan. Wish you could do a remake and fix this.
