When we are in the darkness - whatever that is in our own particular story - the temptation is to believe that it's over, it's always going to feel this way, we will never be anywhere else or feel anything other than we do now. We fear the darkness, and for good reason. But it is in the darkness that new life begins.

Referred to God as Him/Her. After I heard this reference in the first chapter I DNF, because I cannot trust the author’s knowledge after a confusion like that. The Bible is clear.

The audiobook has got to be the best version of this story. Hearing Mitch read it himself and the audio clips of Chika throughout were amazing. I don’t believe any book has made me bawl my eyes out with sadness and also the joy of knowing this story.
