Plot please

I wish there were more plot and less inner issues. I understand the want to give inner depth to the characters and develop them, but as a long time reader I'm bored. Everyone's issues are the same and not resolving the big bad is just blah. Give us a storyline and the poly and therapy and inner thoughts. Hamilton has lost the balance here. She got it back a few books ago (Serpentine was great) but she's lost it again. Also, how does Anita make such a huge decision without Micah? How do you leave him out of this entire book, taking back Richard and the power boost.

The reviews about the plot holes and confusions are correct. This story is a tangled jumpy, confusing mess. I also agree that the author didn't embrace polyamory and could have had a less heterosexual focused plot that brought the characters together. Instead, she forced a bisexual women into heterosexual relationships that seemed forced and fake.

Slow and Weak

Long descriptions of things we don't need information on making chapters annoying and hard to listen. A weak female lead with annoying thoughts, and so far no clue of why we are all listening to this. Lana is an author I typically love. I have an hour left of this book and no drive to finish it. She needs control so she has an eating disorder. I'm not impressed by this vain barbie of a lead.

Not great

The story felt rushed and slow at the same time, which was confusing. How do you expect the reader/listener to cope with 'I hate you, I will escape' to HEA in such a short book. The female narrator was not good, her pacing was terrible. The male narrator wasn't my cup of tea so this while book just felt like a waste. if I could have returned it I would have.

This story is pretty awesome for the first 3/4 of the book. Great plot, great sex.


Then, she gets pregnant?! F'ing really?! Even on birth control she gets pregnant. I'm so tired of this crap. I was so hopeful because at least she wasn't a virgin, but nope. She gets pregnant.

Slow

I'm disappointed. The book takes place over 24 hours in the present, with plenty of flashes to the past. The title is Creeping Beautiful so people complaining about the taboo story line are a little dense. That said, this whole story could have been explained with a prologue and moved into plot, but no, the entire book is a prologue for book 2. Every twist I saw coming, and maybe that's because I read dark themed books constantly but overall I'm disappointed.

Heard it before.

Literally a rewrite of 50 shades. Nikki's lack of emotional intelligence is frustrating and the fact that she slaps Damien is unacceptable. "oh baby" is repetitive and every time it comes up it just sounds odd. I tried, will not continue with the series.

The narration seems to have been dubbed over with a second attempt every 5 min or so. The storyline is cute but I'm detail oriented and her puking then making out with guys not once but twice was a little eh. At least write in that she cleaned up first. Others talked about the sex scenes being too plentiful, no sex for the first 4 hours of the book would be me kindly disagreeing with those reviews. Plus this is a RH book 1, we all know where this is going.

Awesome, must read

I've been a Laurell K Hamilton fan for years. I did feel like her other series devolved at some point, but still enjoyed reading and listening to them. This book is fresh, interesting, and nothing like her other two series. I disagree with other reviews saying this is just a carbon copy or the male version of Anita. I listen start to finish, was engaged in every minute, and can't wait for another installment. I appreciated the narration, but would recommend 1.20 speed as it flowed perfectly.

Just okay.

This audiobook was just okay. Narration would have been better suited to a dual narration. Richard's take on a female voice, especially during sexual scenes is laughable. Seems like Kelly went from one nonconsensual relationship to being raped by 3 men who she then falls in love with. I'm all for dubious consent but for some reason this book, out of the hundreds I've listened to, didn't exactly sit right with me. How everything was resolved in the last 30 minutes was also just sooo convenient. Not bad, just not great. It will get you through a rainy day if needed.
