Historia
In 1972, when workers in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, were digging the foundations for a new development, the last thing they expected to find was a skeleton at the bottom of a well. Who the skeleton was and how it got there were two of the long-held secrets kept by the residents of Chicken Hill, the dilapidated neighborhood where immigrant Jews and African Americans lived side by side and shared ambitions and sorrows. Chicken Hill was where Moshe and Chona Ludlow lived when Moshe integrated his theater and where Chona ran the Heaven & Earth Grocery Store.

Terrible narrator
Revisado: 06-29-24
i abandoned this book after struggling through the first 2 hours. The narrator is terrible, no pauses between sentences and no inflection at all. Had to give this book up. Might try to read myself, really like the author, just not the narrator.

Imagine a London where magic is real...real, but feared. This is Eliza Braxton's London, and she has always accepted her place in it gladly. As one of the Riftborn, her magic has relegated her to the servant class, where she dutifully serves as the lady's maid in one of the most powerful households in the country. There, she uses her remarkable powers of persuasion to keep Elder Hallewell's rebellious daughter in the path to an arranged match of power and prosperity. Eliza has never questioned her loyalty...until now.

Historia
No one survived the last battle unscathed. Flint is angry at the world, Jaxon is turning into something I don't recognize, and Hudson has put up a wall I'm not sure I'll ever break through. Now war is coming, and we're not ready. We're going to need an army to have any hope of winning. But first, there are questions about my ancestors that need answers. Answers that might just reveal who the real monster is among us. And that's saying something in a world filled with bloodthirsty vampires, immortal gargoyles, and an ancient battle between two gods.

Hard to listen to this one
Revisado: 10-21-22
I have really enjoyed the series until now. Why change the pronunciation of Mekhi to MaKai? I was halfway through the book before I realized they were talking about the same character I had grown to love in earlier books. Also the Irish accents sounded more like the characters came from India than Ireland! And if the MC says "I did the only thing I could do" one more time.... It actually became comical she said it so much! I like the story, and have pre-ordered the next book, but the narrator really needs to work on a few things.

Surprised and shocked at author's deviation!
Revisado: 07-13-20
I have completely enjoyed this series until now. I have whole heartedly recommended this series to all my family and friends. Now I am embarrassed that they will read this latest book. The author filled this book with unnecessary foul language and explicit sex scenes. I was very uncomfortable listening to the explicit and graphic descriptions of sex, and felt it very unnecessary to go to such detail. And the F bomb being dropped with every other word it seemed! Ridiculous! I really could felt for the first time that I could not connect with these characters, I sincerely hope the author goes back to her previous style of writing that was both exciting and beautifully descriptive without all the R rating. After all, we all know what happens when 2 people have sex, we do not need it spelled out. Some things should be left to the imagination.
