Brilliant!!!!!
Revisado: 01-15-25
Brilliant reading!!! Absolutely marvelous! The many characters are portrayed in her voice and her tone so creatively, distinctly, and with such veracity! I couldn’t put it down. I will listen to it again. It was my first acquaintance with this novel.

Historia
As David Brooks observes, “There is one skill that lies at the heart of any healthy person, family, school, community organization, or society: the ability to see someone else deeply and make them feel seen—to accurately know another person, to let them feel valued, heard, and understood.” And yet we humans don’t do this well. All around us are people who feel invisible, unseen, misunderstood. In How to Know a Person, Brooks sets out to help us do better, posing questions that are essential for all of us: If you want to know a person, what kind of attention should you cast on them?

Not for me.
Revisado: 06-15-24
I don’t bond with others over pain. I find that rather unfortunate. The enthronement of pain clashes with my intuitive life philosophy. The book was recommended to me by a friend. It deals with practicing listening skills and empathy (as if such things could be methodically “practiced” with any sense of organic spontaneity in real relationships), hoping to appear like you care more and feel better about yourself. It’s a little childish. When someone (a supervisor, a distant acquaintance) asks me questions to make me talk about myself and “feel heard”, I see it a mile away. It always seems to me an artificial, phony, and almost vain course of action on their part. Taking charge of feelings other than your own is arrogant and pretentious. Just be respectful and kind to others. Don’t try to make them feel this or that. In relationship, observe your reactions, notice how the immediate reactions of your mind prevent you from actually listening. That’s more like it to me.
So.. I would pass on this one if you resonate with this sort of thinking.

After years of watching patients cycle through her practice, Dr. Gabrielle Lyon noticed a pattern. While her patients struggled with a wide range of conditions, they all suffered from the same core problem: they had too little muscle rather than too much fat.

I needed to hear this. Recommended.
Revisado: 06-04-24
It definitely pumped me up with education and motivation to train. I learnt much I did not know. I needed to hear this pile of really good advice with a matter-of-fact, you-can-do-it tone. She’s very clear and completely realistic in her observation of real people’s lives and challenges. She gives encouragement and plan implementation suggestions in an imaginative, refreshing way.
I found the author’s reading style really hard to listen to. She reads it like EVERY!!! Single!!! Syllable!!! Is a PUNCH!!! She flows for short little bits, but for the most part makes frequent pauses that can mar your willing attentiveness.
I did listen to it throughout, and even replayed some sections more than once to take notes, because I truly want to give her suggestions a serious try.

Historia
Some lines should never be crossed. Police corruption, an investigation that ends in tragedy and the mystery of a little girl’s silence – three unconnected events that will prove to be linked by one small town. While detective Cormac Reilly faces enemies at work and trouble in his personal life, garda Peter Fisher is relocated out of Galway with the threat of prosecution hanging over his head. But even that is not as terrible as having to work for his overbearing father, the local copper for the pretty seaside town of Roundstone.

Historia
