Historia
Standing before Feldstone Manor, site of so many happy memories, Rose Davenport feels nothing but dread. Her family’s annual visit to the stately home was once brightened by her friendship with the earl’s youngest son, William, but everything changed the day his elder brother was disinherited and William became heir to his father’s earldom. From that moment, William made it clear he has no interest in continuing an acquaintance with Rose. Heartbroken, she sets out to prove that she will simply not be ignored - or outdone - by the arrogant future lord of the manor.

Too much yelling and misunderstanding
Revisado: 05-22-24
Narrator was too angry, so much misunderstanding, couldn’t get behind the characters, glad it worked out but it was cringe worthy

Historia
Adie Lou Kruger’s ex never understood her affection for what her parents called their Cozy Cottage, the charming, ramshackle summer home - complete with its own set of rules for relaxing - that she’s inherited on Lake Michigan. But despite the fact she’s facing a broken marriage and empty nest and that middle age is looming in the distance, memories of happy childhoods on the beach give her reason for hope. But converting the beloved, weather-beaten structure into a bed-and-breakfast isn’t quite the efficient home-reno experience she’s seen on TV.

Nice story but predictable
Revisado: 05-21-24
I liked the setting and premise
It got to be too cliché and I started to feel preached at concerning empowering mottos and feminist notions. The cottage rules were sweet, but overdone.
Why oh why does every woman in a story either start a bakery or a bed and breakfast?

Historia
When her sister decides to throw an impromptu summer house party, Sophia reluctantly agrees to help. What she doesn’t realize is that her sister has plans of her own — plans that would bring a certain childhood friend back into Sophia’s life. It’s been nearly a decade since Sophia has seen Hugh Quinton. He’s grown into a handsome, charming, and successful — yet completely unacceptable — tradesman. Her mother looks down on him, her father detests him, and society would snub him in an instant. Sophia shouldn’t even consider him.

Ok but a bit preachy
Revisado: 03-04-24
This has the potential to be a really fun story but the performance really wasn’t great. The main female character just couldn’t seem to get it together. The performance was really lacking, especially when it came to the little girl. It really got preachy at the end and I’m a very religious person, so that’s saying a lot.

Pretty good but not perfect
Revisado: 01-29-24
Overall, it was all right. I felt like the performances were a bit on the dramatic side. Not very realistic at all. Lots of sighing and such. Got annoying after awhile.
I was frustrated with some of the character’s choices. They didn’t seem consistent with what a character would have done in that situation. But it was a nice getaway for a little while from doing laundry .
I could’ve done without the lack of propriety . You just don’t need sex to sell a truly good book.
Only three stars.

Historia
Anna Karenina is widely considered to be one of Leo Tolstoy’s best works. Essentially a tragic love story, Anna Karenina tells the story of the rebellious and beautiful Anna and her passionate affair with Count Vronsky. Anna’s heartbreaking story unfolds against the colorful backdrop of 19th-century Russia, amid a hypercritical and unforgiving society that will never accept her for who she really is.

Not as good as I had hoped
Revisado: 10-28-23
Perhaps it’s my modern impatience, but this story does not move quickly enough for the substance of the tale. There is a lot of uninteresting historical side commentary that doesn’t contribute to the plot in any way. I would much prefer to read an abridged version. The reader has a beautiful voice, but does not demonstrate very much skill in portraying. Multiple personalities. Especially men’s voices. Everyone sounds a little dopey. Like they have their nose plugged. Not terrible. But just not as good as other readers. But a beautiful woman’s voice.

With a few well-placed words in the right ear, Anna Tunstall can direct anyone to do her bidding, exactly the skill needed for one destined to be the wife of a man in politics. A summer visit to a friend’s country estate is the perfect distraction before the London Season begins, and Anna can achieve her ambition of a perfect match. Harry Aston has spurned the noble aspirations of his family to enter holy orders where he might make a difference in people’s lives. His mother’s untiring attempts to find him a wife worthy enough to suit him only serve to set up his back.

I didn’t like ANY of the characters
Revisado: 07-31-23
In this book there was a major flaw. I definitely couldn’t cheer for the main character. There was nothing redeeming about who she was, how she behaved, and how she treated others. I also didn’t find her love match to be all that enticing. It didn’t seem like Anna, the lead character, did anything of value or worth.
The story was quite contrived, and seemed rather forced to follow a template of what romantic authors think their audience is after.
The performance also added to my dislike of the main character, as she seemed rather flippant in her performance. All of the characters started to sound the same near the end, and I wondered if the last chapter hadn’t even been read over before she actually performed it as it was filled with errors.
I recommend saving yourself the time and money and selecting a different book.

War and Peace is at once an epic war chronicle and an exploration of everything that make us all human: love and hate, ambition and despair, life and death. Allow yourself to get lost in the lives of three Russian aristocratic families, whose triumphs and challenges are every bit as resonant to today’s listener as they were to original readers. Thandiwe Newton inhabits each character with such flair that it is easy to forget that you are listening to one voice.
