Historia
There have always been whispers. Legends. The warrior who cannot be killed. Who’s seen a thousand civilizations rise and fall. He has had many names: Unute, Child of Lightning, Death himself. These days, he’s known simply as “B.” And he wants to be able to die. In the present day, a U.S. black-ops group has promised him they can help with that. And all he needs to do is help them in return. But when an all-too-mortal soldier comes back to life, the impossible event ultimately points toward a force even more mysterious than B himself. One at least as strong. And one with a plan all its own.

Slow and ponderous
Revisado: 01-24-25
The story is well written, but it’s really a story of gods and ghost is very much in the fantasy realm, which is not really described in the overview of the story. The story is very slow and philosophical and OK if you find that interesting in the fantasy space.

Historia
Humanity is a dying breed, utterly reliant on artificial labor and service. When a domesticated robot gets a nasty little idea downloaded into its core programming, they murder their owner. The robot discovers they can also do something else they never did before: They can run away. Fleeing the household they enter a wider world they never knew existed, where the age-old hierarchy of humans at the top is disintegrating into ruins and an entire robot ecosystem devoted to human wellbeing is having to find a new purpose.

Intellectual sci fi
Revisado: 06-28-24
This feels like it’s a 1950s classic sci-fi, but it is more modern. The primary character is a robot as are most of the other characters and it explores how machines and automation affect humanity in the future. Has more depth than most recent sci-fi.

Cliche storyline, unrealistic characters
Revisado: 06-16-24
I read the first book, and then started the second book because I had already purchased it.
Both are underwhelming. It reads a bit like a romance novel, piggybacks off of Area 51 alien landings which are false, and has characters that are one-dimensional and don't respond in realistic ways.
I think this series is possibly a "star trek for young female readers" but I finally had to stop listening to it since it was a complete waste of time. It bothers me how nearly every book on Audible is 4.5 stars even when they are extremely mediocre.

Very introductory and outdated, unable to return
Revisado: 10-23-23
Given the author and topic I had high hopes for this book. Perhaps it had new ideas back when ChatGPT was only at a private release stage. However, it really does read like content you could get by simply discussing these topics with ChatGPT. After getting to the second chapter it doesn't seem to be getting any better, and I'm not going to waste more time on it. Audible is refusing to let me return it, so it was a waste of $15.

In Rip-Off!, 13 of today’s best and most honored writers of speculative fiction face a challenge even they would be hard-pressed to conceive: Pick your favorite opening line from a classic piece of fiction (or even non-fiction) - then use it as the first sentence of an entirely original short story.

Not sci-fi
Revisado: 11-14-19
This is in the sci-fi section but most of the stories are not sci-fi. Stopped reading after 2-3 stories due to how boring and uninteresting the ideas were.

very disappointing
Revisado: 09-01-16
I would have returned this book but I was too far through it to stop. All action, reads like a movie script. Very militaristic, very little depth or sophistication. Will never read this author again.

Poor storyline
Revisado: 04-29-16
What would have made The Post-Human Omnibus better?
The storyline is far too fantastic, the characters follow stereotypical gender roles, and the characters make oddly irrational decisions seemingly just to allow plot twists. I literally started fast-forwarding through some of the implausible sections and through the unnecessary torture scenes.
What could David Simpson have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Sorry, this is just not a very good book.
What didn’t you like about Ray Chase’s performance?
It was OK, but the female characters weren't very believable.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
If it has actually focused more on the tech and social impact of transhumanism it would hae been more interesting.
Any additional comments?
I am returning this book. I literally couldn't continue listening to it. I should have known better with a book that lists "Amazon reviewers" as its primary supporters.

random switching between make and female voice actors. action sequence at the end has some very tedious characters and plot. the technology ideation seemed a bit limited in comparison with other cyberpunk at the time.
