Historia
Xander Corey lives simply, sustainably, on the outskirts of Osprey, a small, quaint town in Upstate New York. He’s a librarian when the town’s budget can afford him, a good friend, kind neighbor, and also, a witch. And while that’s of no concern to anyone around him, there are others, non-humans, who have a vested interest in Xander’s family land. Xander knows something dark and dangerous is brewing. He’s just not quite sure what.

This was a great listen. I always love Greg Boudreaux as a narrator, he has a great voice and is consistent with the character voices.
The stories and characters kept me engaged and had me cracking up throughout.

Historia
Now that Pern can look forward to a future without the threat of Threadfall, the people are free to leave their protective stone holds and spread across more of the planet, as well as improve their lives with the newly discovered ancient technology. Not everyone is happy, though. Some resist the change, and consider anything new to be an "abomination".

Very disappointing listen
Revisado: 11-28-24
I love the story and world building. Always fun.
However, I was very surprised at how bad the narration of this is.
Dick Hill has read most of this series and while he wasn’t always consistent with his voices throughout, he did a good job.
With this book, suddenly he has changed the pronunciation of many names, and added some very odd accents for characters that have been in many of these books.
Not sure about the time between recording this book and the rest of them but this particular book is very off putting when teaching the chronological end of the series.

Historia
One ghost from the past. Two unknown Australian monsters eating people. Three men who won’t let either problem win. Familiars of choice, healing old wounds, Australian mythology (yes, Nico and Wicky are in Australia): it goes about as well as anyone could expect. With giant amphibians of unusual size that stump even the MAD research department, Wicky may have summoned Godzilla (in his defense he was left unsupervised). The next time they have to travel to a different continent Bel is drugging Nico first...

Great story, poor narration
Revisado: 07-29-23
Really enjoyed this installment in the series from a story perspective but the narration left a lot to be desired.
Way way too many pauses between one person speaking and the next so it almost doesn’t sound like a conversation. I thought a few times that the playback stopped or my earbuds gave out.

This went past believable
Revisado: 05-30-23
Generally a good story but the ease with which the team was captured and the penultimate torture/exposition scene was beyond my “suspension of disbelief” threshold. Very “B-movie villain” scene.
Deaths that were unnecessary to the plot and yet another DS who was colluding with the bad guy. This makes two in a row related what is basically the same case/cases and the same bad guys.
And really no mystery at all from the beginning that the two were colluding with one another and that the DS was linked to Bosco.
A disappointing installment of the series in my opinion

Historia
Six years had passed since the redoubtable knight Sparhawk had triumphed over the evil God Azash and returned to Elenia with Queen Ehlana, his bride. And now a new danger had arisen to threaten the peace of Ehlana's realm. The trouble had started quietly. At home, bandits began to plague the hill country. In neighboring Lamorkand, the customary political unrest turned ominous with whispers that the bloody heroes of old soon would rise again.

Narrator failure
Revisado: 10-03-22
I’m not sure why a different narrator was chosen for this series, rather than the original narrator for the first series in this universe but the choice was not beneficial for the story.
Not only are the voices not even close to the first series, pronunciations of most unique words are completely different. It would have been nice if the narrator would have at least listened to the first series of books for pronunciation alone if nothing else.
What is completely infuriating though is the sheer lack of differentiation between voices, very often you can’t feel the difference between two voices in a single conversation.
Also, total failure at most of the feminine voices.
And giving Zalasta what amounts to an Irish accent? Ridiculous.
The story is fabulous, of course, and I only made it through the whole thing because I do love it and wanted to have the audio version.
I would not recommend this listen to anyone, however.

Disappointed
Revisado: 07-16-22
While I love this series and all the characters, this book was a let down. It really could have been a shorter story the way it was presented.
Although the third book in the story, it did not progress the timeline any farther and gave very little new information. I feel like we already knew a great deal of the storyline from the Segonian.
Like a few other reviewers I noticed a naming error in the preview/teaser for the next book so I hope that is corrected before the book is released.

Just my luck - my new next door neighbor is a unicorn. Yep, the British hottie is clearly a mythical man because - get this - he's a sexy, witty, charming, big-hearted single dad. Who, wait for it, wants to find Mrs. Right and get hitched. He’s a once-in-a-blue-moon kind of man, and it’s a darn shame I’m not on the market. If I were, his accent alone would melt me. Add in the fact that he's a veterinarian, and my animal-loving heart would be flip flopping.

Just one reason
Revisado: 06-24-22
Just one reason for the low performance score is the female narrator’s attempt at a British accent. It would have worked if Liam was an old, stuffy aristocrat in a Victorian era romance. It did not portray the fairly young man that Liam is. Almost made me return it at first hearing it but I love Teddy Hamilton so I kept on listening.

Good story, lackluster narration
Revisado: 06-15-22
Really enjoyable story in the series but wouldn’t have bought if it wasn’t a book in a series I enjoyed.
Narration is overdone, pretty over dramatic, for the book, like everything was a suspenseful moment and/or climax.
Be sure to listen to the sample before buying!
