Even More Incredible in Audio
Revisado: 07-17-21
I loved this book when reading it, and I loved it even more listening to it in audio. It's beautifully written, woth humor, delicious descriptions, layers of meaning, and so much purpose. But the narrator brought a whole new level of meaning to it. the voices were so unique and varied and made me feel like I was interacting with real people. The action was well narrated and the cozy humor and wit was even more perfect. I recommend this to absolutely everyone.

Glad I have the whole series
Revisado: 03-01-21
I really enjoy Sarah K.L. Wilson and her past passed but thoughtful writing style. Dragon tide is definitely aimed a bit younger than I typically like, but I do enjoy adult fiction so this is probably the perfect read for YA lovers. There was a lighter tone, which is just what I need right now, but lots of adventure and nail biting moments. And some of the themes really hit home. I am very glad to have them all available, though, because they can suck you in!!!

Archaeologists are not often consulted by gods. However, Malcolm Blackfire is not a typical archaeologist - he’s also a dragon. So, when the brain of the god Janus is stolen from Thanatos Abbey in the city of Talesend, Malcolm and his assistant Melody Nightingale are summoned by Hades himself to investigate. It doesn’t take long for a dark design to emerge behind the bizarre theft. The mysterious Dr. Henry Jekyll is performing dangerous experiments. A powerful sorcerer named Hyde has suddenly emerged in the Talesend underworld.

Gothic Horror meets Mythology meets Dragon
Revisado: 04-18-20
What a brilliant story. There is a bit of a cliff hanger in this one. In more than one sense. So many unanswered questions!!! I love Gothic horror and Frankenstein and Jekyll and Hyde are two of my tops favorites so this was incredible. but... I need more answers! more Blackfire books, please.

Lady Cordelia Beaumont is dying. That’s what her mysterious nurse tells her, at least. Even worse, her magic powers have abandoned her, her friends are missing, and her whole world has completely changed. Everyone around her is insisting that magic and fairy tales aren’t real. Even the name of her city is different. She’s not in Talesend anymore - she’s in a place called London.

Revisado: 04-16-20
Hearing this book read is like finding an old friend in disguise. I've not had the pleasure of reading this before, but I love the B+B series and all Kyle's stories and hearing the voice actor's artistic take on this was wonderful. So good I listened to it on the way to work, on the way home, and then sat in the dark for 45 min or so to finish it. I love all of it.

Historia
Todd Crane is on the run from the law. Good thing he’s got four legs. But even the magic ring that lets Todd turn into a centaur isn’t enough to help him escape from Marshal Amy Crockett, who’s got a bone to pick with him. Something about selling not-entirely-legal magic potions. No big deal, right? Hang on. It gets worse. There’s a downright terrifying monster roaming across the West...even worse than the usual monsters one finds out there. A creature that could leave the United States of Neverica in ruins. The Headless Horseman is back.

Every Western Needs Magic
Revisado: 04-12-20
Kyle Robert Shultz is an amazing author and I think this was one of my favorite books by him. I did love the Beaumonte and Beasley books I've read so far, but I feel like this book had a much richer world to play with. That, and I love horses and dragons. And both featured strongly in this novel. (Tolkien would be proud) There were a lot of twists and turns. Things I didn't see coming. But still, the book flowed smoothly from one scene to another with believable motivations and perfect pacing. More than that, Shultz managed to beautifully juggle a cast of four characters and fill out each with wonderfully engaging personalities. This book is perhaps a bit darker and heavier than some of his others. Not only with the actual plot, but with some of the themes and interactions with the characters. This is probably why I liked it more though. And Kyle didn't take these things head-on but colored them with his characteristic humor and witty one-liners.
Overall, this is a great book and I can't wait to continue on.

Historia
It’s not the people in this town you have to watch out for. It’s the buildings. Monster hunter and part-time centaur Todd Crane didn’t ask to be sheriff of Deadwood. For one thing, he’s never had an easy time staying on the right side of the law. For another, he’s too busy trying to find a dangerous sorcerer who nearly destroyed the United States of Neverica. But some men - and centaurs - have greatness thrust upon them.

A Nail Biting Sequel.
Revisado: 04-12-20
A great entry in an amazing series. I read this book in, more or less, two sittings which is a very rare occurrence for me. But I tell you, once I hit the middle of the book I couldn't put the book down. Todd is a brilliant character. He makes his choices based on what he thinks is best, but even he can see that they are often bad choices. He takes responsibility for his friends while not forcing himself into a role of authority, but giving them all a voice. I love seeing how he makes his choices based on the pressures around him and how that effects everyone. He finds this perfect balance between being so human and still balancing on the edge of escapism making him both fun and relatable.
The rest of the characters were just as fun and nuanced. I loved seeing Julio having to be pulled right out of his blase humor and having to face some serious things. Meg is faced with a situation she's never had to face before and it's both a bit humorous and very very sad. And Amy is both mama-bear and ever-exasperated girl-friendish woman. I absolutely loved digging into her backstory and just how it all unfolded in the story.
The absolute best part of this book, however, is just how brilliantly creepy it is. While it's perfectly balanced with great humor, as always (I laughed out loud more than once) the bases for this story is chilling. You get a good dose of it right off the bat with the prologue, and it just keeps building. Getting to see our characters go up against the villains in the story is a thrill and you never once feel like anyone is fully safe.
And the end of this book, guys! I can't wait for the next one to come out.

Tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme...Disney got it wrong. My name is Nick Beasley. I’m the one they call when things go bump in the night...because I can always prove that there’s actually nothing to worry about. After all, magic and monsters aren’t real. At least, that’s what I’ve been telling people for a long time. But now that I’ve been magically transformed into a big hairy monster, I’m not sure they’re going to believe me. And no, a kiss won’t help. The only person who may be able to fix me is the enchantress who did this to me in the first place.

An Incredible book
Revisado: 04-12-20
This is a great example of what a self-published book should be. It's beautifully written with a nice balance of whimsy blended with notes of horror. The tone of the whole book is decidedly light and buoyant while the subject matter, especially some of the fairy tell retellings, are dark and sometimes well over the line of "creepy". The main character's voice is strong and the side characters play their supportive roles brilliantly. Across the board I say this is a great story and a quick, easy read. Well worth picking up and supporting an author who obvious put a great deal of thought and work into his world.
