Historia
Shrill is an uproarious memoir, a feminist rallying cry in a world that thinks gender politics are tedious and that women, especially feminists, can't be funny. Coming of age in a culture that demands women be as small, quiet, and compliant as possible - like a porcelain dove that will also have sex with you - writer and humorist Lindy West quickly discovered that she was anything but. With inimitable good humor, vulnerability, and boundless charm, Lindy boldly shares how to survive in a world where not all stories are created equal.

LISTEN TO THIS BOOK!
Revisado: 05-31-17
I have a severe reading disorder; so, all my life, whenever I heard someone else RAVE about a book they just read with the statement, "I just couldn't put it down! It was THAT good", I'd consider that unicorn talk. But it's now past 3am, and I've found myself, for the 1st time EVER in my adult life, hoping upon hope for a night of unrelenting insomnia. Yes, the book--every aspect of it: the writing, the reading, the message, the meaning--was, indeed, THAT good. If there ever was to be a fully alive, nonfictional, real flesh-bone human equivalent of the beloved, iconic, Joss Whedon-created television title heroine of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Lindy West is that IRL voice....that IRL heroine.

Historia
The summer Lisa A. Phillips turned 30, she fell in love with someone who didn't return her feelings. She soon became obsessed. She followed him around, called him compulsively, and talked about him endlessly. One desperate morning, after she snuck into his apartment building, he picked up a baseball bat to protect himself and began to dial 911. Her unrequited love had changed her from a sane, conscientious college teacher and radio reporter into someone she barely recognized.

Worthy of your time & attention despite somewhat annoying vocal narration.
Revisado: 02-04-16
Smart, well-written, accessible, and thoughtfully healing. The vocal narration (done by someone other than the author) is a bit disconcertingly newscaster-like, unfortunately.
