Great narrator made it better!
Revisado: 09-27-23
Yes as I said above it’s the narrator I think that for me hooked until the end. I’m not a die hard scifi fan either, but this one I did not want to end!

I HAVE NEVER LEFT A SINGLE WRITTEN REVIEW, UNTIL THIS!
Revisado: 06-10-22
*IMPORTANT*: I listened at .08 speed- made a big difference in my opinion and I loved it! Best audiobook I’ve found in a loooong time. I feel like these days unfortunately I am spending so much time searching through the content on audible and sadly end up missing a lot more than I am hitting on a good one. But This was fantastic! Totally a Breathe of fresh air for crime/mystery/gritty detective or whatever label you want to categorize it in.. but the author and narrator are a stellar combo and truly enjoyed. Also I’m very confused as to why this author and his stand alone novels are not more well known and blowing up the charts let alone even mentioned on any charts!?!?

Historia
Jackson Brodie has relocated to a quiet seaside village, in the occasional company of his recalcitrant teenage son and an aging Labrador, both at the discretion of his ex-partner Julia. It's picturesque, but there's something darker lurking behind the scenes. Jackson's current job, gathering proof of an unfaithful husband for his suspicious wife, is fairly standard-issue, but a chance encounter with a desperate man on a crumbling cliff leads him into a sinister network—and back across the path of his old friend Reggie.

Historia
A canny young woman is struggling to survive by perpetrating various levels of mostly harmless fraud. On a rainy April morning, she is reading auras at Spiritual Palms when Susan Burke walks in. A keen observer of human behavior, our unnamed narrator immediately diagnoses beautiful, rich Susan as an unhappy woman eager to give her lovely life a drama injection. However, when the "psychic" visits the eerie Victorian home that has been the source of Susan’s terror and grief, she realizes she may not have to pretend to believe in ghosts anymore.

Short.. fine .. not epic enough to build on though
Revisado: 10-22-18
I appreciate the very cool Gilliam Flynn-esque twist that ties the whole (short) story line together at the end but not a fan of ghosts even tho that’s not what it ends up being but
It almost seems like she started writing this and then quickly realized that she does not like ghost stories either and had to do the right thing here in my opinion and cut it short ac an hour and 15 minutes. For what it is however, I can appreciate the ending for Gillian Flynn’s natural ironic twisted in a smart ass way endings she can do so well.

As a child, Chris Hooper dreamed of monsters. But in deep space, he found only darkness and isolation. Then, on planet LV178, he and his fellow miners discovered a storm-scoured, sand-blasted hell - and trimonite, the hardest material known to man. When a shuttle crashes into the mining ship Marion, the miners learn that there was more than trimonite deep in the caverns. There was evil, hibernating and waiting for suitable prey.

Simply awesome. Fans rejoice. This is THE format for Alien universe fiction. It is exactly the right length, yet I'm sad when it's finished. We need ten more episodes just like this.
