Hope this isn’t a sign of things to come
Revisado: 12-18-24
I’ve enjoyed Jack Carr’s series for a while. This one was a big swerve from what came before. It honestly felt a little rushed to make it relevant to current events today. The risk there is that those perspectives become dated themselves. I think this one did that. Also, Reese is becoming a little too “expert” in everything. Several times in the book in the story the protagonist and those around him talk about their favorite authors on various topics. I get that Carr has read these authors but it seemed like filler for the book that did not contribute to the story. I liked it better when Reese was expert at what he did and the surrounding cast had their own expertise that he could lean on. Now we are moving toward a James Bond type of guy that is losing the realism of the character in the first book.

Kind of like a cartoon version of a good story
Revisado: 12-18-24
The concept of this series is good enough and could actually be a good book but the story is rushed without any plot or character development. At points, the character just changes completely without any explanation. For example the main character is 90 days sober in book 1, goes on a binge in the first couple of hours of the book and then you never hear about that issue again. The Roland “tech” character is super nerdy in book 1 with some mental health issues, normal and competent in book 2 with nothing to worry about. I would like for someone to have gotten their hands on this who wanted to take their time to develop something with quality.

Where was the editor
Revisado: 10-23-24
A good editor would have prevented king from publishing this one. It’s a political rant about vaccines and Trump with a story put on top of it. Story was not that good. I’m generally a fan but this was sad

Historia
Mitch Rapp hates owing anyone a favor—especially when it’s the world’s most powerful crime lord. But when Damian Losa calls, Mitch is honor bound to answer. The Syrian government has created a highly addictive new narcotic that it plans to distribute throughout Europe. It’s a major threat to Losa’s business and he’s determined to stop it by any means necessary. Rapp is the perfect choice for the mission. Not only does he have extensive experience operating in the Middle East, but he’s also entirely expendable.

New narrator and I’m sure he’s good with other books but he’s not the voice of Mitch Rapp. Story was corny. Just didn’t feel like a Mitch Rapp story at all.

Historia
King David was a complicated, conflicted man of flesh. But too often he is viewed as an Americanized shepherd boy on a Sunday school felt board or a New Testament saint alongside the Virgin Mary. Not only does this neglect one of the Bible’s most complex stories of sin and redemption, it also bypasses the gritty, life lessons inherent in the amazing true story of David. Mark Rutland shreds the felt-board character, breaks down the sculpted marble statue, and unearths the real David of the Bible.

It’s hard to find a good book about David. This book leaves me still searching. More like a Sunday meeting sermon from a traditional take on David.

Historia
A dark and sweeping adventure, Dreamcatcher is set in the haunted city of Derry - the site of Stephen King's It and Insomnia. In it, four young boys stand together and do a brave, good thing, an act that changes them in ways that they hardly understand. A quarter-century later, as grown men who have gone their separate ways, these friends come together once a year to hunt in the woods of Maine.

I kee trying this one, but it's only getting worse. Usually, King's books are a sure thing for a good story...maybe this one resolves in the end to become that, but I'm halfway through and giving up. The nature of the writing makes this story difficult to understand what is going on. I'm completely lost. Maybe I dozed off at a key part of the story...i don't know. Done with this one though.

I've really enjoyed the other series by these authors. I rank them up against any of the big ones. This one...not so much Story was weird. I get taking some liberties for a Christian novel...but this was so far out there...i couldn't figure out what they were doing. I will not be going forward in this series.

Historia
The acclaimed biography of the early church's greatest evangelist, the Apostle Paul. Master storyteller John Pollock makes Paul and his amazing story freshly alive, so that you can know the greatest apostle much as Luke and Timothy did as they traveled with him. As you listen, you'll sense Paul's motives, his aims and priorities; what mattered to him; and what he was willing to die for.

Takes a dip here
Revisado: 01-23-23
I really wish they would have stayed with the original narrator in this series. The change here was difficult to get used to. I might not even do the next book in the series. I've seen other people complain of the poor history in these books. I can tolerate that in a historical novel. Unforutnely, the characters even changed a lot in this book from the previous books in the series.
