Historia
In what is widely hailed as the best of his many novels, Charles Bukowski details the long, lonely years of his own hardscrabble youth in the raw voice of alter ego Henry Chinaski. From a harrowingly cheerless childhood in Germany through acne-riddled high school years, and his adolescent discoveries of alcohol, women, and the Los Angeles Public Library's collection of D. H. Lawrence, Ham on Rye offers a crude, brutal, and savagely funny portrait of an outcast's coming-of-age during the desperate days of the Great Depression.

Let go of your pearls , sheesh...
Revisado: 10-06-20
The amount of pearl clutching literary gatekeepers who left repulsed reviews on this title is laughable. I had so much fun listening to this outstandingly raw narrative fiction. Christian Baskous absolutely nails all the colorful characters in this wonderfully dark humored, semi-autobiographical account of Bukowski’s life.

Historia
From the creator, writer, and executive producer of the HBO series True Detective and soon to be a major motion picture comes a dark and visceral novel set along the wastelands of Galveston. On the same day Roy Cady is diagnosed with a terminal illness, he learns that his employer has put a hit out on him. After narrowly escaping an attempt on his life, Cady goes on the run with a young prostitute named Rocky and her three-year-old sister, from New Orleans to Galveston, Texas. But though they run, they cannot hide in this explosive, atmospheric, impossible-to-pause thrill ride.

Wonderful Hardboiled Noir
Revisado: 07-09-20
If True Detective brought you here, you know you are obviously in for a treat. Nic Pizzolatto is a true student of the game in terms of hardboiled noir. The dialogue is very well written. As a South Texan, his descriptions of New Orleans, Texas, and the Gulf Coast are so incredibly vivid/accurate. Michael Kramer’s contrasting voices in this really bring the story to life.

Historia
Legendary folk singer and activist Woody Guthrie left us with this funny, cynical, earthy and tragic account of his life in an Oklahoma oil-boom town, of the Depression that followed, and of his subsequent travels in, on, and under trains, in stolen cars and on his feet, rounding an America going rotten from the top downwards. During the journey of discovery that was his life, Guthrie composed and sang words and music that have become a national heritage. His songs are merely part of his legacy. Woody Guthrie left us this remarkable autobiography.

Excellent performance, Okay story.
Revisado: 06-27-20
I loved Little Arlo reading his dad’s work. Woody Guthrie has a great knack for dialogue, and I love his story as he travels all over the USA in the 1930s. The narrative itself was just okay, nothing spectacular. This book is really more of an embellished memoir than an autobiography or anything.

Historia
A legendary folk singer and activist, Woody Guthrie and his songs changed the world. Born in an Oklahoma oil-boom town, Guthrie traveled America by boxcar, thumb, and foot. Along the journey, he composed and sang songs that have become a national heritage. His songs, however, are but part of his legacy. This remarkable autobiography brings to life both his vibrant personality and a vision of America we cannot afford to let die. Funny, cynical, and earthy, Bound for Glory is the stirring account of Guthrie's life and a superb portrait of America's Depression years.
