This Reminds Me of Tekken But Sci-Fi
Revisado: 12-08-20
This novel has some cool Sci-Fi ideas that would become a lot more commonplace in the years since it's writing, but first and foremost it's kind of an action novel about a whole bunch of not particularly nice or _good_ people that make a relatable snapshot of various aspects of humanity. I found myself surprised many times at who I was cheering for or what I was hoping would happen and ultimately had a great time touring around all the places.
The ending kinda sucks unfortunately. I don't remember the last time I felt so attacked at the end of an otherwise solid book.
The background music and sound effects on this particular version of the audiobook were unobtrusive and did help with the atmosphere. Though I read this over the course of two or three weeks. The bgm might be more grating in a
longer listening sessions.
I enjoyed my start with the Culture series and I look forward to reading the rest soon.

Avengers Endgame, But Magic the Gathering
Revisado: 08-17-19
I enjoyed this a lot, and particularly liked watching Teyo grow and learn.
However, This is my first time hearing a full story in the MtG setting, and it felt a lot like watching Avengers Endgame as one's first Avengers movie. It's enjoyable, but is probably much more exciting and easy to follow who-is-who for those who already read the comics and stories from the MtG website / wiki.
Tons of characters, lots of adventure, and an appropriately videogamesque sense of escalation and drama to the whole thing, with humor sprinkled around to prevent things from getting too bleak.
Looking forward to future titles in this series!

Robowolves, Cybernetic Limbs, Science-Folly Fun
Revisado: 09-04-15
Would you listen to Heart of Steel again? Why?
Certainly. In particular, the chapters that have more interaction with Mechanus's 'family' are my favorites. All of them are a little quirky and flawed in endearing, somewhat cute ways.
And the parts where Mechanus comes off as a creepy stalker are amusing too.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Mechanus easily steals the spotlight from every other character in the story. The other characters make a fine catalyst to explore his goals, memories, and abilities, and that's where the tech-y science-y fun flows from.
What does Peter Reynolds bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The characters all come a bit more to life with their individual styles. The sound effects on the robotic characters makes it easy to remember which characters are and aren't human, even though I have a poor time remembering anyone's names.
Any additional comments?
The sciency bits are on the soft side of the spectrum, and are more on the whimsicle, implicative side than speculative side. You won't find any details as to which motors and which sensors and what software make characters work, and some of the details when it comes to computer and network use is dubious, but it's fun anyway.
