Historia
Some lines should never be crossed. Police corruption, an investigation that ends in tragedy and the mystery of a little girl’s silence – three unconnected events that will prove to be linked by one small town. While detective Cormac Reilly faces enemies at work and trouble in his personal life, garda Peter Fisher is relocated out of Galway with the threat of prosecution hanging over his head. But even that is not as terrible as having to work for his overbearing father, the local copper for the pretty seaside town of Roundstone.

Such a perfect book for these times
Revisado: 09-02-24
I love the twist of the coincidence that marked “the turn”. The last part was SO very satisfying. Such a good story about maintaining perseverance and integrity in the face of a situation rife with corruption.

Winner of an Obie and a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, and directed by Tony nominee Leigh Silverman, Yellow Face is as timely as ever, wrestling with issues of cultural appropriation, complicity, and artistic freedom. It’s brought to life in this audio-only revival by a stunning all-star cast (many playing themselves) led by Daniel Dae Kim.

The complexity of stereotyping
Revisado: 07-28-24
What was once the American Dream turns out to be the American Illusion, hatched in Hollywood. I liked how everyone’s certain positions became uncertain. No one could land on solid ground. That defines the time we are living in now and the angst we all have to come to terms with… no gender, no race, no affiliation, no status… can protect one from the press of the Present unfolding truth… well done.

Meet Jessica Jones: retired superhero, private investigator, loner. She tried her best to be a shiny spandex crimefighter, but that life only led to unspeakable trauma. Now she avoids that world altogether and works on surviving day-to-day in Hell’s Kitchen, New York. The morning a distraught mother comes into her office, Jessica would prefer to nurse her hangover and try to forget last night’s poor choices. But something about Amber Randall’s story strikes a chord with her. Amber is adamant that something happened to her teenage twins while they were visiting their father in the UK.

Initially after loving all of Lisa Jewel’s books, I wanted to not listen to this past the first ½ hour… but I was glad I stuck with it. A creative dressing down of the intense marketing, branding and influencing of the human race.

Historia
The people of ancient Sumer are gathered to celebrate the rite of the Sacred Marriage, a joyous and glorious testament to the unity of Goddess and Man. Times are tough, crops are failing, and this year’s ceremony holds special significance. But for the priestess Simi, the fertility rite is very personal. Because it is Simi who will be locked in a room with a stranger to carry out the blessed responsibilities. Only this time, the stranger is no stranger at all....

Historia
Roger Stringer grew up in rural Mississippi, hunting and eating everything from deer to rabbits. When he had two sons, Zac and Justin, he gave them guns and took them to the woods as well. Then one day when the boys were home alone, he got a call from Zac that Justin had been shot. What follows is an intimate and gripping memoir about the shooting’s aftermath. The story moves between the perspectives of Roger and Zac as they take us through their journey of betrayal, redemption, and ultimately confrontation with a company that had kept its corruption a secret for decades.

What a story!
Revisado: 10-21-23
The weaving of this tale is almost as interesting as the characters and content of the story. The coming into precise detail and then stepping way back. If I hadn’t seen the Netflix Bernie Matoff docudrama, I might have felt lost but it was pretty close to that impression. “All the world’s a stage…” every one gets corrupted, lost… in this tale.

I like the shifting back and forth between youth (where things just seep to happen to you) and experience bred maturity and the choices that become more apparent. Also, the Mother’s secrets and storytelling…The mother is always weighing what is “healthiest” or “protective” for the children to know.

An Artfully Written Story
Revisado: 02-20-23
Well written and well narrated. This book moved me right into my heart… great characters and a well-paced plot. At times I laughed out loud at other times, I whispered, “Hurry! Get out of there!” And, “Oh NO!” Very satisfying without all the cheap shock value in most current fiction.
