Excellent account of the breakup of FDR’s coalition during the 1970s under the guise of Carter and Kennedy. Well worth reading.

The book is great but I noticed that the last third of the book is just a repetition of previous chapters - word for word. That was disappointing given how excellent everything was until then. Otherwise I am happy with the book.

I’ve been going through all of this series and it is well worth it. This is only part 1 in a 3 part series (which is only part 3 of a larger series). Well with worth it in my opinion.

Few books, let alone presidential biographies tower in American literature. This is one of them. Even better - it’s only one piece - a pivotal piece - but one all the same of the sweeping life Lyndon Johnson led. The other pieces together with this one show how Johnson, similar to Nixon, Truman, Jackson, and Reagan, along with many other presidents, typified the American dream and its promise of social equality and economic mobility. But they also show how Johnson, like most great people, was a very flawed human being, and would eventually become a tragic character. For anyone aspiring to power, especially political power in a democracy, please read this book, and learn from its story.

As everyone has, this version of Caros work is abridged, and thus incomplete. The narration is amazing, and the storytelling is phenomenal. But what we get here is only a fraction of the real book.

This course demonstrates the consequences of when military powers, built on intricate alliance networks, come to blows. It shows how a network of states can have competing interests, how those interests manifest themselves on the battle field, and what kind of consequences may ensue. Professor Harl does a fine job of recounting the numerous facets of the war. However there are a large number of names and places interacting with one and other throughout the conflict, and making a list of all of these different factions was a necessity. Over all the course was great and provided valuable insights on the perils of what changes erupt from a state during periods of intense warfare.

Really good course. The latter sessions really give a sense of adventure due to how well they were documented.

The lecture as whole was well worth listening to. While it does focus mostly on Western thinking, Professor Mathewes is well aware of that and noticibly encourages other lines of thought. The organization is chronological, and I found the earlier lectures more compelling than their modern counterparts because the modern renditions focused on novels and poets containing examples or analyses of evil.
