Historia
O’Reilly and co-author Martin Dugard trace the brutal history of 20th-century organized crime in the United States, and expertly plumb the history of this nation’s most notorious serial robbers, conmen, murderers, and especially, mob family bosses. Covering the period from the 1930s to the 1980s, O’Reilly and Dugard trace the prohibition-busting bank robbers of the Depression Era, such as John Dillinger, Bonnie and Clyde, Pretty Boy Floyd, and Baby-Face Nelson.

O’Reilly ties from the beginning of the mafia in America and Cicely to modern times. Covering Bonnie and Clyde, through Capone, Bugsy , to John Gotti. And Hoover was present most of the time.
Excellent read! It’s on my favorite shelf.

Historia
In 1900, the U.S. sent three doctors to Cuba to discover how yellow fever was spread. There, they launched one of history's most controversial human studies. Compelling and terrifying, The American Plague depicts the story of yellow fever and its reign in this country - and in Africa, where even today it strikes thousands every year. With "arresting tales of heroism," it is a story as much about the nature of human beings as it is about the nature of disease.

Yellow Fever in Memphis
Revisado: 04-13-20
Yellow fever ravaged Memphis, peaking in 1878. The city went from a population of 47,000 to 19k in months. This book covers its origins in Africa, describes daily living, medical care, churches, and the deaths and burials of the victims.
The epidemic sparked a virologist coordinated lead team which tackled the disease. Walter Reed was a leader during the research. My great 3x grandparents and 6 other relatives died in the epidemic and are buried together in a family plot.

Another excellent Patterson book. An FBI agent has been marginalized during her career. Her determination lead to the discovery and conclusion to the countries most violin serial killer. His crimes were over a very large area and covered up in fires. Who he was, was shocking.

The number one New York Times best seller by Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David McCullough rediscovers an important chapter in the American story that's "as resonant today as ever" (The Wall Street Journal) - the settling of the Northwest Territory by courageous pioneers who overcame incredible hardships to build a community based on ideals that would define our country.

McCullough does another great job of research and story telling. A rather unknown American picked up from the American Revolution and expanded the Inited States. Reverend, Dr., Manasseh Cutler was extremely pivotal in our growth west into the Ohio Region.

Historia
On the surface, the Victorian age is one of propriety, industry, prudishness and piety. But scratch the surface and you’ll find scandal, sadism, sex, madness, malice and murder. Presented by Stephen Fry, this series delves deep into a period of time we think we know, to discover an altogether darker reality. The stories we’re told offer a different perspective on an era which underwent massive social change. As education, trade, technology and culture blossomed, why was there an undercurrent of the ‘forbidden’ festering beneath Victorian society?

Historia
As the true horrors of the Third Reich began to be exposed immediately after World War II, the Nazi war criminals who committed genocide went on the run. A few were soon caught, including the notorious SS leader Heinrich Himmler. Others, however, evaded capture through a sophisticated Nazi organization designed to hide them. Among them were Josef Mengele, the “Angel of Death” who performed hideous medical experiments at Auschwitz; Martin Bormann, Hitler’s brutal personal secretary; Klaus Barbie, the cruel "Butcher of Lyon"; and perhaps the most awful Nazi of all: Adolf Eichmann.

Behind the scenes of the final days of the Nazi holocaust officers
Revisado: 11-04-18
Bill O’Reilly has written another excellent book. We know the history in his “Killing...” series. However, the behind the scenes details is what sets the series apart. In Killing the SS, O’Reilly tells the stories of the Nazi officers that escaped after the war and how the Israeli Nazi-hunters track down the 3,000 people who played a large part in the Jewish holocaust for Hitler. Many of them lived in South America. They were hunted and found. Some were executed. Many were eventually set free. Several were sheltered by other countries including the U. S. I recommend this book for those interested in knowing the final end of the Nazi regime after the war.

Historia
Four US Navy SEALS departed one clear night in early July 2005 for the mountainous Afghanistan-Pakistan border for a reconnaissance mission. Their task was to document the activity of an al Qaeda leader rumored to have a small army in a Taliban stronghold. Five days later, only one of those Navy SEALS made it out alive. This is the story of the only survivor of Operation Redwing, SEAL team leader Marcus Luttrell, and the extraordinary firefight that led to the largest loss of life in American Navy SEAL history.

The heroism of our soldiers is grand. Aside from that, the takeaway from the book is how much different our cultures are so much different. Both, good and bad. I recommend reading this book.

Historia
For the first four months of 1942, U.S., Filipino, and Japanese soldiers fought what was America's first major land battle of World War II, the battle for the tiny Philippine peninsula of Bataan. It ended with the surrender of 76,000 Filipinos and Americans, the single largest defeat in American military history. The defeat, though, was only the beginning, as Michael and Elizabeth M. Norman make dramatically clear in this powerfully original book.

The most riveting and graphic book I have ever read. All H.S. students should read to understand how horrible is war and how we should never treat each other. Also to learn how our indoctrination, usually how we are raised and how cultures can get it wrong.
