Historia
Johnnie Rico never really intended to join up—and definitely not the infantry. But now that he’s in the thick of it, trying to get through combat training harder than anything he could have imagined, he knows everyone in his unit is one bad move away from buying the farm in the interstellar war the Terran Federation is waging against the Arachnids. Because everyone in the Mobile Infantry fights. And if the training doesn’t kill you, the Bugs are more than ready to finish the job.

A classic
Revisado: 12-18-24
This reading is very much better than the first audio version, which sounded like a little boy was reading it.
I read this book many years ago; agreed with the ideas presented then and still do now. I also read it on every Fleet Ballistic Missile Submarine Patrol that I made while I served in the U. S. Navy

Good, however
Revisado: 07-08-23
I did like the prequel at last, and would not mind more of his time in the Army books. The however comes from enough with the "I said nothing " already.
Also evidently 'they' borrowed from this book in the Jack Reacher TV series, but still managed to get the history of the medal wrong.

Historia
The image of the dead girl's body lingered in detective Dave Robicheaux's mind as he drove home. After seeing the young victim's corpse, the last thing he needed to come across was a drunk driver. But when he saw the Cadillac fishtail across the road, Robicheaux knew the driver was in trouble. What Dave didn't realize, was that by pulling the car over, he was opening his murder case wider than he could imagine. The driver, Elrod Sykes, in New Iberia to star in a movie, leads Dave to the remains of a black man that had washed up in the Atchafalaya swamp.

Much Better Than the Movie
Revisado: 05-15-23
Although I enjoyed the movie, the book had so much more "story" to it. The General shows up more, and Feet plays a bigger part and is a more nasty character. The movie didn't do justice to the book.
Alas, no Clete.

Better than TV, SCARY book
Revisado: 04-10-23
Took me a bit to recognize that it was one of the TV episodes because it was so vastly altered. And although I appreciate the TV actor, I feel that they have gone too WOKE with the television show when compared to the oh so much better books.
Why can't they leave things alone?
Excellent narration.

". . . a vial of . . . TRI T UM gas"! Did he even stop to look at the word? It is tritium by the way. Good grief. I have not heard him say it yet, but I would not be surprised if he at some point reads out MK rather than saying Mark at some point.

Abridged for audio
Revisado: 09-19-22
Why abridged for audio? Evidently this is Will Patton's first reading of this series. His later readings are far, far better. I don't know if the story was incomplete because it was abridged or if that was the way it was written, Do not judge the series if you are unlucky enough for this to be your first book; listen to one of the later Patton readings in which he truly has developed his character's voices.

Mixed feelings
Revisado: 04-20-22
The story line is interesting, however, the characters are not solid at times. At the end of the book, Jordan has a brief interview, in which he attempts to explain his character's actions, but still; that doesn't justify their constant down right childish petulant responses, nor their inability to finally truly see what what is going in the world.

Historia
Creole Belle begins where the last book in the Dave Robicheaux series, The Glass Rainbow, ended. Dave is in a recovery unit in New Orleans, where a Creole girl named Tee Jolie Melton visits him and leaves him an iPod with the country blues song “Creole Belle” on it. Then she disappears. Dave becomes obsessed with the song and the memory of Tee Jolie and goes in search of her sister, who later turns up inside a block of ice floating in the Gulf.

Excellent
Revisado: 08-31-21
Of course Will Patton does an excellent job.
I think that this may tell Clete Purcell’s story best of all the books so far. As usual, Dave fails to listen to Clete which puts them in even worse situations. Sometimes I think his name should be changed from Dave to Dense.

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: When it comes to author/narrator pairings, nobody tops James Lee Burke and Will Patton in the Robicheaux thrillers. Beloved Burke hero Detective Dave Robicheaux here returns to New Iberia to solve a series of grisly murders. Seven young women in neighboring Jefferson Davis Parish have been brutally murdered. While the crimes have all the telltale signs of a serial killer, the death of Bernadette Latiolais, a high-school honor student, doesn’t fit.

Great as usual.
Revisado: 07-25-21
Will Patton hits it out of the park! Why is it that it seems that Dave seems so dense while Clete sees everything so clearly in just about every book? The only thing out of character for Clete in this book was the hesitation at the end. He had already raised the Black Flag, and I don’t buy the light change angle.
If we had to go through Dave and the ghost ship scene, a stray bullet would have worked.

Great story and performance but horrid editing
Revisado: 06-13-21
As usual, Will Patton does an excellent job, and the story keeps one's attention. However the audio editing at the end of each chapter and at the end of what one one could call each 'major' chapter or break is awful. The chapters usually have an emotional ending; however; there is no pause at the end, one is immediately slammed into "Chapter #" ; which I find to be unsettling. Come on editor, give the listener a little break at chapter's end, a 2 or 3 second break would not hurt.
