Historia
The universe has been explored - and humanity has all but given up on finding other intelligent life. Then an alien satellite orbiting a distant star sends out an unreadable signal. Is it the final programmed gasp of an ancient, long-dead race? Or the first greeting of an undiscovered life form?

OMG! What a disappointment
Revisado: 01-11-11
I rarely write reviews, but I have to warn you, this book stinks! Engines of the gods was really good... Deep Six was pretty good... but Chindi was AWFUL! The whole book was one, never-ending dialoge amongst the characters. The fascinating possibilities of the storyline were never followed through. You read more of what the characters are thinking and even eating, than you do about space, aliens or alien crafts. I'm definately not wasting another credit on McDevitt. I'll purchase the next book in the series at a thrift store, just out of curiosity. Maybe he was having a major bad day! I really think authors' agents should demand quality writing... not mass production.

AWESOME!!!
Revisado: 11-12-10
I am so sad to have the saga end. I just hope Hamilton finds it in himself to carry on the commonwealth saga. I've started reading the Dysfunction series, but it just doesn't compate to the Star and Void books.

Historia
The Dead Path tells the gripping story of a broken man, Nicholas Close. A terrible accident has left him a widower and awoken in him the ability to see the dead. Now, he can’t escape visions of tortured spirits, their last moments caught in horrible, endlessly replaying loops. Nicholas leaves London and returns to Australia, where he is disturbed to see that a heavily treed tract of land in his childhood suburb has somehow escaped development.

another great story ruined by unnecessary sex
Revisado: 10-31-10
the story line was great. but once again, another great book bites the dust. If I buy a book expecting a ghost story, or horror novel, I'm not expecting to get an earfull or eyefull of pornography. A story line can use either another avenue to link the story together, or it can be done without such candid, blantant, detail of the sexual act. I'm running out of authors I can read... makes my library rather slim for the pickings.

just ok
Revisado: 10-20-10
this book was ok. not scary, but imaginative. the ending sucked though. i just wish i could find a book as worthy as stephen king's "the stand" to scare the pants off me!

Historia
Spearpoint, the last human city, is an atmosphere-piercing spire of vast size. Clinging to its skin are the zones, a series of semi-autonomous city-states, each of which enjoys a different---and rigidly enforced---level of technology. Following an infiltration mission that went tragically wrong, Quillon has been living incognito, working as a pathologist in the district morgue.

Historia
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

King is returning
Revisado: 10-10-10
I enjoyed the book immensely, storyline and descriptive style was great... seems Stephen finally realized his pre-accident form of writing was his best. HOWEVER; I really don't understand why King has to be so damned descriptive in his sex scenes. In fact, I don't understand the need for them at all. They did not enhance the storyline, or I should say, the storyline could have been written without those "scenes". I felt like I was hearing pornography for the ears much of the time. I don't know if King has a perverted sex addiction or if he's just frustrated in his own bedroom.
This book would have received a 4 star rating from me (it did have a strong underlying "the Stand" flavor to it) had the ear pornography not been so rampant.

couldn't get through it
Revisado: 08-16-10
i made it through chapter 8 and couldn't go on. The first person narrative is annoying. the narrators weren't very good. you don't have to use a high pitch voice to indicate a woman speaking. try just softening your tone rather than increasing the pitch. i see the book got great reviews, but i thought it was awful. waisted my money in my opinion.

The cause of the devastation is a phenomenon that will come to be known as The Pulse, and the delivery method is a cell phone. Everyone's cell phone. Clay and the few desperate survivors who join him suddenly find themselves in the pitch-black night of civilization's darkest age, surrounded by chaos, carnage, and a human horde that has been reduced to its basest nature...and then begins to evolve.

Nice to read Stephen's real talent again.
Revisado: 07-04-10
Others compared this book to "The Stand". I do not feel it is even comparable to the talent of "The Stand"; however, Stephen King's original writing style does seem to be on a come back. For this, I am thankful. His trash he wrote after his near fatal accident truly sucked. "The Cell", which was a good read, is a sign that he is finally returning to his roots.

Historia
Long ago, a human astrophysicist, Inigo, began dreaming scenes from the life of a remarkable human being named Edeard, who lived within the Void, a self-contained microuniverse at the heart of the galaxy. There, under the beneficent gaze of mysterious godlike entities, humans possessed uncanny psychic abilities, and Edeard's were the strongest of all. Equally strong was his determination to bring justice and freedom to a world terrorized by criminal violence and corruption.

Loved It!
Revisado: 07-04-10
I was leary of the "dreaming" by Indigo, but, as unrealistic as the "powers" of Ediard are, Peter F. Hamilton wrote it in a way I found myself believing it to be reality. I can't wait for book three due out in mid August 2010!
