Historia
In general, Karou has managed to keep her two lives in balance. On the one hand, she's a 17-year-old art student in Prague; on the other, errand-girl to a monstrous creature who is the closest thing she has to family. Raised half in our world, half in 'Elsewhere', she has never understood Brimstone's dark work - buying teeth from hunters and murderers - nor how she came into his keeping. She is a secret even to herself, plagued by the sensation that she isn't whole.

Can't believe I wasted a credit on this!
Revisado: 02-19-21
Save your money/credit and skip this audiobook. The story is absolutely terrible and ridiculous. I didn't read the other books in the series and I will never read/listen to another book by this author. I am not even curious about what happens to the characters; I really don't care. I either didn't like or was uninvested in the characters. I really didn't like Akiva, which is a problem given he is a protagonist and I didn't really buy into his relationship with Karou. I think their relationship and her character is given a disservice by her being the reincarnated spirit of another woman. It seemed like a cheap way to quickly make their relationship intense and meaningful without actually putting in the groundwork. The performance isn't terrible but it isn't great. The narrator really doesn't seem well suited to the content and her delivery is jarring when she is talking about Eastern Europe and fantasy lands and people. Can't warn others against this title enough.

This story of mistaken love is a romantic fiction set in the English Regency period. It centers on Lord Sheringham who has been rejected by the woman he loves but the woman who has secretly loved him since childhood is waiting.

A fantastic and romantic book
Revisado: 03-05-12
I absolutely loved this book. The hero is dashing, the heroine is sweet and the supporting characters are well drawn. The characterizations are realistic, portraying the characters as likeable, if flawed, individuals. The writing is eloquent and witty. This book is set in the past and makes the past come to life, full of high spirited young people. I would recommend this book to others. The narrator does a wonderful job and gives all characters their own distinctive style.

Historia
Everybody in the elves’ village was in a terrible state of worry and confusion, dashing hither and thither. And all because the King of the Elves had lost his crown. THEY - the people who live in the house - had been spring-cleaning, and had taken everything out of the china-cupboard where the elves’ village is. That, said the King, was when the crown was lost.

A charming, intelligent children's story
Revisado: 03-05-12
I first heard this story as a little girl and when I saw it was available here I bought it immediately. The story is about elves living in a kitchen and the author manages to bring the world to life, making it magical and yet still recognizable. This story has many interesting characters and ideas. The narrator does a wonderful job and has a beautiful voice. This story is imaginative and I enjoyed just as much listening to it as an adult as I did as a little girl. I would heartily recommend this to others.

In The Tangled Skein, author David Stuart Davies accomplishes a creative coup by arranging the fateful meeting of two of literature's most resilient characters: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes and Bram Stoker's Count Dracula.

A light hearted, fun, story
Revisado: 03-05-12
I thought this story was fun to listen to. The author melded the two stories of Dracula and Holmes together in a believable way. The characterizations were strong and the narrator's performance was well done. I'd recommend this.

Very disappointing
Revisado: 03-05-12
I think that this book failed to draw me in and convince me that the considerable liberties it took with Conan Doyle's works was anything other than farfetched. The author seems to have given Holmes many opinions about various subjects which seem out of place and anachronistic. In the author's attempt to update this Holmes for a modern audience he has lost a lot of what made Conan Doyle's work so good. It is almost as if he is writing an original story about an unknown character, who just happens to share a name and certain abilities with Sherlock Holmes. I would not recommend this audiobook to others. If anyone wants to listen to a story about Sherlock Holmes, I would recommend the originals.
