Historia
It's 1910, and Theodulf Sauer has finally achieved a position befitting his ego: master lighthouse keeper at a newly commissioned station towering above Lake Superior. When his new wife, Willa, arrives on the first spring ferry, it's clear her life has taken the opposite turn: after being summoned home from college to Duluth when her father dies, she and her scheming mother find themselves destitute, and Willa is rushed into this ill-suited arranged marriage. As the lighthouse station establishes, the new relationship teeters between tense and hostile.

Historia
Growing up in Columbus, Ohio, in the 1990s, Hanif Abdurraqib witnessed a golden era of basketball, one in which legends like LeBron James were forged and countless others weren’t. His lifelong love of the game leads Abdurraqib into a lyrical, historical, and emotionally rich exploration of what it means to make it, who we think deserves success, the tension between excellence and expectation, and the very notion of role models, all of which he expertly weaves together with intimate, personal storytelling.

You don’t need to love basketball to love this book
Revisado: 10-22-24
This book is a meditation, a prayer, a litany, a love song, an ode…to Ohio, to LeBron, to the Cavs, to basketball, to family, to friends, to love and poetry and, yes, ascension. Fans of Ocean Vuong or Kiese Laymon have to read this book.

Better than the novelization of Robocop!
Revisado: 09-29-23
Rife with the pop and counter culture of the eighties and nineties, this wondrous, loving, strange, and beautiful novel will make you laugh, gag, cry and want to break out your Liz Phair albums and feed your family all the damned Apple turnovers they want. It’s a punk rock love story epic masterpiece. All of those things and then some. You’ll freaking love it.

Historia
Wren and Thessaly collide when they land coveted jobs at a glamorous New York City boutique wine importer. Hardworking, by-the-book Wren comes from a modest background and has everything to prove while Thessaly hails from a family of prestigious California growers—but she is plagued by self-doubt. Thrown together at work, where they're expected to have exquisite palates, endless tolerance for alcohol and socializing, and the ability to sell, sell, sell, they regard each other with suspicion.

A beautiful look into the world of wine and the people who make it happen
Revisado: 08-13-23
This is such a great book and a perfect book club book! It’s also a super compelling dive into the world of wine distribution and sales and production which I absolutely loved being a restaurant person. It also does an awesome job of taking seriously the lives of two independent, strong women who aren’t just waiting around for guys to make their lives whole. A beautiful and memorable read!

Historia
Chris Dombrowski was playing a numbers game: two passions - poetry and fly-fishing; two children, one of them in utero; and an income hovering perilously close to zero. Enter, at this particularly challenging moment, a miraculous email: can't go, it's all paid for, just book a flight to Miami. Thus began a journey that would lead to the Bahamas and to David Pinder, a legendary bonefishing guide.

Historia
It’s the late 1980s, and Matthew Carnap is awake most nights, afflicted by a potent combination of insomnia and undiagnosed ADHD. Sometimes he gazes out his bedroom window into the dark; sometimes he wanders the streets of his small Southern Minnesota town. But more often than not, he crosses the hall into his stepfather Russ’ roller rink to spend the sleepless hours lost in music. Russ’s record collection is as eclectic as it is extensive, and he and Matthew bond over discovering new tunes and spinning perfect skate mixes. Then Matthew’s mother divorces Russ.

Gorgeous rich book
Revisado: 02-12-23
Reminiscent of Charles Baxter’s The Feast of Love or The Goldfinch or John Williams’s Stoner. A must read for any child of the seventies or eighties.
