Such a well written novel until the last 45 minutes. A minor spoiler ***. but no one who is a Christian will be surprised. As soon as a character is identified as a Christian home schooler, they’re going to be evil. A bit of a letdown after all the exciting twists and turns to smear this lifestyle as ignorant and sinister.

Wonderful end to series!

I bought this book because I needed to finish the series, but I wasn’t overly enthused about it. For me, the middle dragged a little bit as we went back-and-forth between the various characters and what they were doing. When I saw there was an hour left. I thought - there’s no way this is the last book - there’s just too much left to be resolved! But, WOW!!! without giving anything away - superb finish - well done!!!

Not my typical genre, but a fun listen.

Taking a break from reality (which looks pretty dark right now!) seemed like a good idea, and this fantasy series has characters you care about. I guess it’s considered Young Adult - meaning there’s not lots of f-bombs or sex scenes - but it doesn’t feel like a kids book. Complicated plot lines w/plenty of twists and turns & just enough angst to keep me invested made me listen far quicker than my usual pace. I’m going to try to show some restraint and limit myself to just a chapter or 2 a day for the next in the series!

Not easy to find a book w Christian themes that isn’t heavy-handed or cheesy. Glad I found this one! And narrator did a fab job voicing the different characters. Didn’t want this one to end!!!

Almost a great book

The main story was so creative and unexpected, but then an extra narrative of white privilege and racial justice was introduced. It added nothing to the characters or the plot and seemed like it was inserted after the book was written to be more relevant in our current cultural climate. It just didn’t fit well.

Different but still fun!!!

As a huge fan of the Expeditionary Force books, I was quick to buy and listen to this new addition. It took me a little time to adjust to having a full cast performance rather than the incredible solo narration of RC Bray. I was hooked once I got to Zachary Quinto’s smarmy Brock Steele, and finished the book in less than one day. Sigh, now to wait for the next book!!!

I ususally love the Newberrys, but this one was really slow. Nothing happens. Ever. Also, there are interesting illustrations in the book that are missed when listening to the audio version.
