Really fantastic follow up to its predecessor with interesting new characters, tons of plot twists, and a main character you can root for.

One of the best books I have ever read. Hands-down, I was hooked from start to finish.

This “book” is good, but doesn’t really have the full length plot of a novel. At barely 5 hours long, it feels like this is one book split in 3rds instead of 3 different books. I don’t feel like I read a book, it feels like a short story. It was good, but not worth the credit

This was just terrible. The writing is baaaaaad. I think the story is supposed to be like a fresh take on the little mermaid, but I really just don’t know. The world building is not good. And as much as I love a trashy romance novel now and then, it feels like this one was published sans editing.
Moreover, the narrator sounds like SNL’s Vanessa Baker doing her best impression of Little Jewish Boy Jacob. Look it up, you know it’s true.

The book is interesting from the first minute you turn it on, and I had a hard time putting it down. I’m not always a fan of YA, because I feel the plot lines are often predictable, and the characters tend to be idiots. But this novel seemed like the start of a pretty cute series, with a few plot twists that had the right amount of twist, and characters who are flawed, but have a backbone, and their act together. I’m interested to see where the next book goes. The next two books are currently not available on audible, which is disappointing, because the following three are... here’s hoping that oversight gets fixed.
I really enjoyed Angela Rysk’s narration. The book is good on its own, but the narrator puts it over the top for me. She gives life to some pretty average characters, in a way that no other narrator has for me. I wish there were more books available on audible with her narration.

A great start quickly dissolved into mediocre world building. Fairly intersecting characters are trapped in a plot that takes far too long to develop. I love a long book as long as it’s going somewhere, but the characters don’t go off adventuring until at least halfway through the book.

The Imp series is going down in history as one of my all-time favorites. Moreover, Dunbar knows when to give the series a satisfying ending while the books are still good.
Endlessly funny, irreverent, occasionally heartfelt, but always awesome, Dunbar’s Imp series will leave you laughing out loud and cheering on an unlikely but lovable heroine. Three cheers for Sam.

While I enjoyed the book, and the narrator did an okay job, I felt like there was a disconnect between the age of the narrator, the age of the main character, and the main character's voice. The main character is supposed to be 23. Vincent's writing gives her the voice of an immature 23-year-old "daddy's girl," which would be fine on its own, but the narrator's voice sounded too mature for the character. Instead of portraying the character as an immature 23-year old, it made me feel like I was listening to a whiny middle-aged woman who is acting like she's 19. It was very confusing, and while I appreciated that the narrator's voice was deeper and not as high-pitched, which I feel did fit the character, it was still not a good fit. I think the series should be re-recorded with a new narrator.

Dunbar is one of the most underrated authors on audible. Blending hilariously irreverent commentary dialogue with an interesting story and lovable characters, the Imp series is one that you'll enjoy reading and rereading.

I'm looking forward to the resolution of the series, however I felt that Lair of Dreams was written to bring certain characters together and lay the foundation for their respective relationships. I did not enjoy it as much as its predecessor, and I felt that the arc of the overall storyline does not advance enough in the second book to justify turning what could be a trilogy, into a four-book saga.

Overall the book still earns a solid 4.5 stars, if only for the sheer beauty that is Libba Bray's writing.

I am always astounded by Bray's ability to apply current events topics in a way that they can be tied back to real events from past eras, such as the 1920s, making the past or the issues so much more relatable for readers-- and it's not even done in a condescending way, like some authors who shall remain unmentioned *cough* "James Patterson" *cough, cough*
