Couldn't understand the number of great reviews

The book isn't bad. The beginning is interesting and I assume it's building up to something bigger, but I just got bored waiting for that to happen and only made it halfway through. It's confused me that there are so many great reviews. I'm happy if a lot of people have found this to be just what they are looking for, it just never captured me.

Did I miss why this book is famous?

If the author keeps telling you that one of his characters is so amazing, does that make it true? I felt like this whole book is based on the idea that one character is so eloquent that he blows everyone's mind when they talk to him, but as a reader you never experience this. It seems like a bunch of people enamored with nothing or awe struck by a psychotic. The narrator was fine and the author could have written a good book (I mean seems to have the capacity to write a good book), but there's no reason in my opinion to read this one.

This book is awesome!

You could use The Way of Kings as a model for how to write a good book. The pacing, foreshadowing and timing of reveals are all excellent. The story and characters are fantastic. The performance on the audio book is also great. This is actually my second time listening to this book. The next book is at least as good of not better.

Too much petty bickering

The story ends up taking a backseat to the continuous squabbling between characters over small matters. It's a shame because the series had been a lot better up to this point and I hear that it gets better again before the end. I'm not sure how much more braid pulling and neckline swooping I can take if I decide to keep going. Kind of want to get to the Sanderson books since I really like his writing.
