Historia
In the little city of Flint, Michigan, the good die young, and the people left standing are the grimiest of characters. With reign over the city's drug trade, Benjamin Atkins made sure that his precious daughter, Raven, was secluded from the grit that the city had to offer. But when Raven's young heart gets claimed by Mizan, a stick-up kid in search of a come-up, there's nothing Benjamin can do about losing her to the streets.

Poor Performane
Revisado: 03-16-25
While I don't expect narrators to be experts at accents, this narrator sounded as if she was trying to sound upper class yet the story was set in the streets of Flint, MI. She even tried southern accents for some (non-southern) characters. Another issue was the repeated mispronounciations of locations in the book (Clio Road, Grand Blanc, Ypsilanti, etc.). That's just lazy. As far as the story goes, it was interesting but a better editor could have made it far more compelling.

Worst Narrator Ever
Revisado: 03-13-25
I think this book may have been better than I think it was, because the narrator was so terrible. Her accents were awful and she should not have attempted them. The worst was that she felt the need to shout throughout the book. Turning the volume down did not resolve the issue as then one missed other parts of the narration. Overall, the story was solid - not great, not bad, but completely destroyed by the horrible narrator.

Dreadful
Revisado: 02-16-23
Listened to it all but it was oh so predictable. It was melodramatic storytelling at its worst. The author seemed to be trying for a Mr. Ripley but fell terribly short. The ONLY interesting thing about the book was that it took place in Morocco. Hated it!!!

Historia
The Science of Getting Rich is the classic guide to creating wealth through the Law of Attraction. First published in 1910, 100 years later it inspired Rhonda Byrne's best-selling book and movie, The Secret. According to Wallace D. Wattles, "There is a science of getting rich, and it is an exact science, like algebra or arithmetic. There are certain laws which govern the process of acquiring riches; once these laws are learned and obeyed by any man, he will get rich with mathematical certainty."

Worst Book Ever Written
Revisado: 06-17-21
I wanted to like this but it was excrutiating and simply, the worst book I have read. Ever. I try to be kind and generous in reviews but there is nothing to redeem this. I purchased this thinking that it would be along the lines of the excellent book, Atomic Habits. A straightforward nonfiction book that provides information on being more effective. Instead, this book is presented in a fictional story form with the ridiculous notion that two strangers, an artist and an entrepreneur meet a homeless man at a self-help conference. The homeless man convinces them to meet him at 5 a.m the following day so he can take them to an island in the Indian ocean and teach them to change their lives. (because the homeless guy is really a billionaire). If that weren't bad enough, the dialogue is beyond horrible - the homeless guy/billionaire repeatedly uses words such as, "gnarly," and "any-who" and refers to the artist and entrepreneur as "cats." It's bad, fake "surfer dude" talk at its worst. There is also a smugness that is conveyed that if you do NOT wake up at 5 a.m, forget all of the success and riches that will come your way because of it, you are morally inferior. The first chapter was so bad, I skipped through it to the 4th chaper. I tried to listen but was so distracted by the depth of how horrible the writing was, I gave up a couple chapters later. Is there anything at all of value in this book at all? Who knows - it was too painful to endure! If this is an example of what is produced when one "joins the 5 am club," l'm going to sleep until noon and suggest that the author do the same!!!

Historia
Think of The War of Art as tough love...for yourself. Since 2002, The War of Art has inspired people around the world to defeat "resistance"; to recognize and knock down dream-blocking barriers and to silence the naysayers within us. Resistance kicks everyone's butt, and the desire to defeat it is equally as universal. The War of Art identifies the enemy that every one of us must face, outlines a battle plan to conquer this internal foe, then pinpoints just how to achieve the greatest success.

Historia
At the age of 22, Jennifer Worth left her comfortable home to move into a convent and become a midwife in postwar London’s East End slums. The colorful characters she met while delivering babies all over London - from the plucky, warm-hearted nuns with whom she lived to the woman with 24 children who couldn't speak English to the prostitutes and dockers of the city’s seedier side - illuminate a fascinating time in history.
