More gay romance than eldritch horror

First off, Im not a romance fan and was pretty diappointed in the fact that the 'modern magical/eldritch mystery' I thought I was getting turned out to be a romance/family drama with a bit of magic sprinkled in. Dont get me wrong, if thats something you go for then by all means go for it. It just wasnt what the synopsis seemed to promise.

I really wanted to like it...

There are so many things that I really liked about this book that it hurts to give it a 'okay' review. The problem is exactly that it has so much going for it, that it can't properly address ANY of it to a good extent. And then there are the perspective changes, generally with no warning, and with no previous knowledge or thought to the new POV. There were several points in the book where I was completely lost because of it, and it happened so much that I quickly became confused and disinterested.
Have you ever played a tabletop RPG and the group all wants to do different things (most of which has no impact on the campaign itself)? The DM really attempts to let everyone do their own thing, but no one can shut up and let the next person play his part? That is how this book felt to me.
I don't know if I'll attempt to listen to any more in the series, but if I do and it gets better, I'll edit this review. Anyway, the narrator did great and the concept is intriguing. It just feels poorly executed to me.

Walter Tye is the best friend any adventurer needs. He is the smiling shopkeeper next to your local dungeon, the one who sells you these cheap healing potions. When you need information, Tye always knows. He wants to help; you can trust him. He is also the undead necromancer ruling said dungeon, getting paid to solve problems that he caused in the first place. But don't tell anyone that.

How to Write a Villainous MC

Wonderful. This is probably one of the most well-written megalomaniacs I've ever come across. I both loved and hated the MC in all the best ways. Well done, Void Herald. You are quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I usually wait for books to get a handful of ratings before buying them, but I'm glad I took the chance here.
For those of you coming from Vanquer the Dragon, this book doesn't have the same silliness, but it does have the quirky characters and enjoyable banter. Never Die Twice is definitely worth your time!

This series is the kind of humorous fantasy everyone needs. The characters are great; the story entertaining; and the silliness is wonderful. If you find yourself being bogged down by the overly dramatic and trudging ways of your normal fantasy reads, then this is the sweet break you've been looking for. I guarantee you will fall in love with this book series!
