Stereo Killer is absolutely a book for music fans, particularly those of us who were ever into Punk Rock. Here you’ll meet Chet, a former punk now in the role of teacher to some less than enthused teenagers who have no idea about his past. It could easily be said that in many ways Chet himself is a bit less than enthused about it, though he can look back at that part of his life pretty readily and count himself among the more informed people who could be teaching his students. A little lost between both the mundane and everyday world of regular life and the punk life of his past, he’s still trying to find where he fits in his current life when Parker, his old bandmate calls him up and eggs him on to join him and a couple of others on a spontaneous tour of Europe born out of new interest for the old band. With some reticence, and the awareness that he had left for a reason, but no idea why he’d decided to, Chet starts to get ready for the middle-aged version of a garage punk tour de force-except what will he do about the life he’d just started to invest in? Will the woman he just connected with still be there when it’s over? Will HE still be there when it’s over?

This book is an absolute blast and more than worth your listening time! Paul Burt does an excellent job of conveying the scene, it’s characters, and the shifting changes of mood and character throughout, even doing a nice job with the musical bits. The book itself is just as complex and engaging as the punk rock scene it portrays, I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for more books from Jeremy Tuman. If you’re looking for a general idea of the mood before listening or reading, think of things like SLC Punk! and High Fidelity, where both dramatic mood and humor are in play, all blended together with music and chaos.

This is a great book for fans of Hunter S. Thompson and gonzo and bizarro fiction in general. I really thought all three authors did a great job of creating works in alignment with his themes and adding a bit of their own spin as well. Burt is excellent with his performance, as always, I have yet to find a book he isn't clearly getting a kick out of as much as the listener and authors.

If you've ever wondered what the world might be like for a chipmunk and his pals, particularly if they were facing down some not very friendly neighbors, this book is for you. I'd say it's a bit like Over the Hedge meets Batteries Not Included with its own narratives and plenty of humor. Audio work was great and fits the overall tone nicey, including unique characters and an overall tone that helps navigate us through sudden change, rodent warfare, and plenty of good points about the cost of human ignorance on wildlife. Highly recommended!

Black Tar is a story about people in complicated circumstances tackling a very big monster who poses a real threat to their world. Not only do they learn it is they who must do so, they are quite literally the only thing that can stop it. The enormity of that, to be not just worthy but utterly and completely necessary to the survival of everyone one knows despite limitations both known and perceived, is not taken lightly but worn with a mighty weight. This book has impact precisely because it does a great deal more than offer you just another monster vs hero tale, letting you in on the sort of heroic elements that don't get much focus in the big screen version-the sort that mean confronting heartache, love, truth and self-reflection in the very moment when all of these things can dictate some of the most pivotal decisions our heroes face.

I've always enjoyed Kanuckel's stuff, I have yet to read anything from him that wasn't a genuine treat to sit down with. His characters, narrative, and open world all mesh together and create a great place to engage with, often a place where one could lose themselves completely. Black Tar is no exception. Come for the adventure and thrills of a great kaiju novel and walk away after completing it with real satisfaction in having come to known such great characters at their greatest moment.
