Beautifully Drawn Characters
Revisado: 04-15-25
The characters were complex and the driving force behind how the meticulously crafted plot unfolded. Vivid descriptions and plot twists made thus a page turner. Wonderful novel!

Historia
When the enslaved Jim overhears that he is about to be sold to a man in New Orleans, separated from his wife and daughter forever, he decides to hide on nearby Jackson Island until he can formulate a plan. Meanwhile, Huck Finn has faked his own death to escape his violent father, recently returned to town. Brilliant Narratiom
Revisado: 03-21-25
Having read Huckleberry Finn, I was eager to listen to this book. I was not disappointed. Jim’s perspective on the events brought new life and much deeper meaning to Mark Twain’s classic novel. And the narrator was perfect. Kudos to both the author and narrator.

This intricate plot was one of my favorite story lines in this series. This novel also had a very strong message about homosexuality and religious fanaticism.

Historia
When COVID-19 sweeps through New York City, Jamie Gray is stuck as a dead-end driver for food-delivery apps. That is, until Jamie makes a delivery to an old acquaintance, Tom, who works at what he calls “an animal rights organization”. Tom’s team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on. What Tom doesn't tell Jamie is that the animals his team cares for are not here on Earth. Not our Earth, at at least. In an alternate dimension, dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm and human-free world.

Not Scalzi’s Best
Revisado: 02-20-23
I’ve read many of the reviews of this book and agree it is not really that good. Thus author is capable of better. I disagree with those reviews that say Scalzi should have left politics out if it. Why? It’s part of the setting. Literature has always been about politics as it reflects the culture in which it is set. Mentioning politics is not the problem here; it’s a weak plot and one-dimensional characters immersed in silly dialogue. Also, I like Will Wheaten but he really sounded way too enthusiastic for this material.
