I read this genre for enjoyment and escapism. Every now and then a story will grab me as something more.

I am a former wild child and have many friends who identify as polyamorous. This story gets into the questions of monogamy, polyamory, how the idea of love can morph and how love can survive through those very different spaces.

Well done, Laurelin Paige and Sierra Simone!

Lexi Blake can grab me every time!

Hutch, Noelle and the rest of the characters display humor, frustration, and the chaos that real life brings. They are relatable, funny, heart-breaking, and complex. There is definitely heat and sizzle....and a GREAT story.

I have to agree with CLL. Both of these characters are spineless, doormats. There was no real story here except 2 people who can't be adults with their families, or with each other. As a female reader, I'm offended at women who don't stand up to misogynistic men. In literature that is aimed primarily at women, this is very poor form. I don't think I will read a Vi Keeland novel again.

NARRATION!!!

Authors or agents or whoever is in charge of talent, needs to take more care of who narrates! The voices and how they read is, in some ways, more important that visual actors. All we have is the voice! So make it good! I have heard this female narrator before. When she is reading, I can't even get through the first chapter. I cannot stomach the nasally delivery and the inflection is 2 dimensional. There is just no depth there. Also, the last two books in the series are done in duet narration. More and more audiobooks are going to this style and it is so much more engaging and believable.

Since I couldn't get past the terrible narration, I didn't listen to very much of the book. But, what I heard certainly didn't draw me in.

Reader's Theater at it's Finest!

I'm going to begin by talking about this narrator. I've listened to a lot of audiobooks. Whether or not I will complete the book often has less to do with the story and more to do with the narrator. This narrator is so adept at creating different voices for the characters, that I knew immediately which character was talking. I was drawn into the story so completely that I felt it viscerally when it seemed as if John Kirk was lost in the fire. Mr. Lovato is gifted at bringing the cast of characters to life. There were a few sound effects that were so seamlessly added that I almost didn't notice except that it added dimension to the story. A previous reviewer mentioned a laugh track. I certainly didn't hear that. Maybe it was edited out.

The fantasy aspect wasn't so fantastical that the story was almost believable, which made it especially enjoyable. The history of the Great Fire of 1871and that entire week of increasing conflagration was riveting!

Great story! Fantastic narrator! Please more by both! Congratulations Mr Merl and Mr. Lovato!
