All the 5 star reviews are a mystery to me. Paolini is an author with potential, but he’s not there yet. I took a chance on this based on the reviews, but after listening awhile I lost interest and returned it.

I’m a big fan of both of the Daemon books (Daemon and Freedom) even though they scared the bejesus out of me, and I highly recommend them both.
So I was looking forward to Kill Decision. Although I did enjoy it overall, it just didn’t wow me like the Daemon books.

Daniel Suarez is at his strongest when he’s terrifying you with the implications of technology, current and future. In Kill Decision, though, he introduces a rom-com element that wasn’t in the Daemon books, and it is disappointingly formulaic both in the personalities of the two characters and in the predictable progression of their relationship. In fact, most of the characters are somewhat stereotypical. The other characters don’t bother me, perhaps because they’re secondary. This romance, however, forms a major part of the book.
So I guess if you like romantic novels it’ll probably enhance your enjoyment of Kill Decision, but I don’t particularly like romantic novels and it was a little annoying and off-putting.

Yeah. Yet another piece of Audible trash that supposedly has 5 star ratings. These fake high reviews are a real problem and one Audible should FIX, for God’s sake! This isn’t fair to your customers

I have NO IDEA what is wrong with me, that I keep reading this absolutely trash series. My bad, I should know better by now.
I can’t return because it was on sale for $2 and cents, but that was way too much to pay.
Narrator has a lovely voice, but can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear…

Well, I’ve never heard the whole thing because I always fall asleep. So you figure it out!

The narrator’s voice is so rich and deep, and the overall effect so calming, that although the “story” component is kind of thin - just being, as it says, a visit to his office - I kind of feel it deserves an overall 5/5.

This quite excellent book scared the crap out of me. Narrated by the author, often a big mistake - but not this time.

Review for The Last Tribe

This is an UPLIFTING “end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it” novel.
I know, sounds crazy. But it reminds me of, and has a lot in common with, a childhood favorite of mine, Swiss Family Robinson.
Swiss Family Robinson is a great, classic children’s/YA book, full of adventure and ideas. It tells the story of a family thrown overnight into a world of chaos where they must survive or perish. But they find unexpected resources and this, along with their ability to work together, makes it possible for them to eventually thrive. Although much has been made of how unrealistic Swiss Family Robinson is, this is a book that can spark the imagination.

The Last Tribe is also a book that sparks the imagination, though it too is a bit unrealistic in places, where unexpected life-saving resources suddenly become available to the characters, and yes, they sometimes pop out of nowhere exactly when needed.

But you know what? Not everything needs to be 100% realistic, especially when “real life” seems so completely far fetched sometimes. This is a great story and I really like it.

This book was such great fun! Now, I really need to go because I’m going to spend more credits on AG Riddle’s books.
WELL WORTH A CREDIT!

‘The reviews are so interesting! Its fascinating to note this audiobook has received OVERWHELMINGLY positive reviews, yet…a peppering of such vitriolic negative reviews!

I’m from the US, but have lived 5 years in the UK in the past. I very much love the country, but it’s undeniable the British are completely mesmerized by all things royal. I’m willing to bet a lot that the negative reviews are mostly from Brits, because many Brits just don’t want to know.

Spare is a very good book, informative and an eye opener,
The takeaway for most readers (American readers, anyway) probably is that the Sussex’s would likely be MUCH better off if they completely cut ties with the UK and everyone there and just lived their own lives. The emotional costs would be high, but they’re already paying. At the very least they need to pry Charles, Camilla, Will, Kate, etc out of their bedroom and marriage.

Since listening to Harry’s story, instead of just laughing at the ridiculous content of tabloids in the market, I find myself wondering how many meetings it took the masters of misdirection to plan how best to throw readers off the real story du jour…because whatever Will Smith and the other Men in Black may say, Rupert Murdoch, Piers Morgan and the tabloids do not offer us actual truth. They are emotional manipulators who make money through “entertainment”, and slick PR.

I am so disappointed.

I pre-ordered this because I’ve loved (past tense) the Innkeeper Chronicles. This audiobook was A HUMONGOUS DISAPPOINTMENT.

First and most important, the new narrator, Nora Sofyan, completely sucks. There’s no polite way to put it.

Dina, Sean, Orro, and Caldonia are completely void of all previous personality now - the new narrator does none of them justice. From her brand-new accent, Caldonia apparently went to a British boarding school for her education and now also fancies herself quite the comedian - gone is her unintentional humor, which was so much more funny. Officer Moreno now sounds like a good old boy redneck, not the hard-working, conscientious, professional officer I’ve come to like and admire. And GASTON! Gaston has been totally transformed into a New Orleans Cajun, born and bred! WHAT!?! And Nora Sofyan’s tortured attempt at this accent is beyond ghastly and quite painful to listen to.

Although I wasn’t crazy about Natalie Naudus suddenly taking over narration in book 4, Sweep of the Blade - it was Maud’s story, so…okay. But then she narrated book 5, Sweep With Me. That’s a novella, however, and she was pretty solid, just not as good as Renee Raudman. Still, I guess it doesn’t matter because now it turns out Natalie Naudus was just a temp…

I suggest, if you actually paid her, you try to get your money back from Nora Sofyan, and go back to Renee Raudman. If you care about your audience, this audiobook should be carefully re-edited and then re-recorded with a good narrator. And I should say it isn’t really fair to her either - a new narrator, as I presume Nora Sofyan is, should be given a chance to start fresh and make a book her own, instead of following the established narrator.

Next, the quality of writing of the Innkeeper series has declined in this book. It’s as if the Ilona Andrew’s team doesn’t have the same level of interest and this is just an easy way to keep the gold flow going. And get rid of the unneeded chapter intro’s (narrated in Caldonia’s new and inappropriately jovial voice), they are just disruptive. It’s too bad, because the premise of the series is very inventive and has so many great possibilities.

I’d give it negative 5 stars if I could. I’ll be returning this to get my credit back, even though I did listen to it all because I kept thinking it would turn around. It never did, don’t waste a credit. Don’t even buy it on sale.
