Revisado: 10-24-19
Prof McWhorter is great fun to listen to. Sometimes his comparisons are bizarre but those examples are hilarious and help to remember. Great material. Granted I’m a geek who thinks language is fascinating but I sure thought my time was well spent with this course.

Historia
Few people had a more profound effect on Christianity in the 20th century than G. K. Chesterton. The Everlasting Man, written in response to an anti-Christian history of humans penned by H.G. Wells, is considered Chesterton’s masterpiece. In it, he explains Christ’s place in history, asserting that the Christian myth carries more weight than other mythologies for one simple reason—it is the truth.

Read this don't listen to this!
Revisado: 06-05-18
Chesterton's style does not lend itself well to listening. I could hardly follow this. I have subsequently purchased a hardcopy of The Everlasting Man and love it -- the book itself is great. The one thing to clarify is that I did not get far when I abandoned ship and decided to read it -- perhaps others have a different experience.

Shakespeare's works are some of the greatest achievements of the human mind and spirit. And yet, for far too many of us, they remain a closed book. Why? Professor Saccio is well suited in these 16 lectures to bring you back into Shakespeare's world and tune you into what he calls "Shakespeare's wavelength." As you hear him effortlessly deliver heretofore impenetrable language with the proper meter, emphasis, intonation, and emotion, you'll experience the pleasure that comes with true mastery.

Revisado: 06-05-18
I've listened to all of Peter Saccio's courses and they are all very good. I don't agree with every point of his analysis but that is fine -- I'd rather a professor who has something to say and can back it up (and with whom I agree much more often than not).

Least of the Great Courses I've listened to
Revisado: 06-05-18
I have listened to a dozen or more of The Great Courses, mostly on philosophy and religion, and this was the least of all of them. Why did I find it disappointing? First the courses largely dwell on the plot-line of Lewis' writings and only a general surface view of his themes. I would have preferred an in-depth look at just a few scenes or a few thematic elements.
Also he provides little in the way of biographical material (not perhaps necessary but I think it is well worth it, especially his conversion story, friendship with Tolkien, marriage etc) -- despite a title that says "The LIFE and writings of C.S. Lewis."
Last I did not like his tone. It really struck me more as a preacher than a teacher.

This course addresses some of the eternal questions that man has grappled with since the beginning of time. What is good? What is bad? Why is justice important? Why is it better to be good and just than it is to be bad and unjust? Most human beings have the faculty to discern between right and wrong, good and bad behavior, and to make judgments over what is just and what is unjust. But why are ethics important to us?

Kreeft is solid. Highly recommend any of his courses. I think he would like to be seen in the same category as Chesterton and CS Lewis and at least in his audio courses I think he does a creditable job of matching up to his masters.

Historia
Though unappreciated in his own time, Johann Sebastian Bach has ascended to Olympian heights, the verdict of contemporary audiences long since overruled by succeeding generations of music lovers. But what makes his music great? In this series of 32 lectures, a working composer and musicologist brings his exceptional teaching skills to the task of helping you hear the extraordinary sweep of Bach's music. You'll understand the compositional language that enabled him to compose such extravagant, unbridled music while still maintaining precise control of every aspect - beat, melody, melodic repetition, interaction, and harmony.

Historia
Even from the perspective of time, it is nearly impossible to grasp the full contribution made to music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in his brief and glorious life. He composed his first symphony at the age of 8 and reached full artistic maturity by the time he was only 20. And when he died at the age of 35, he left a legacy of more than 600 works of brilliance - symphonies, chamber music, operas, and more - most composed during an incredibly productive 20-year period.

Excellent
Revisado: 08-13-16
Probably the best of several courses I've listened to from Audible. Peter Kreeft is forthrightly Catholic but he does a very fair job of presenting the subject matter in a neutral way (and it's hard to imagine a non-Catholic professor presenting Aquinas with any depth or enthusiasm!). Listen to it regardless of your beliefs -- you will get a great overview of philosophical principles as well as Thomistic philosophy.
My one, very minor, complaint is that sometimes the examples given are a little quirky (actually many are quirky but it usually works -- sometimes the quirkiness is a little distracting. But a tiny critique of what is an excellent course.

Very good introduction to micro and macro economics
Revisado: 07-22-16
Overall one of the better courses I've heard. The material was well laid out, I liked the speaker's tone and diction, and I really learned a great amount.
My one critique is that his examples are a little dated: he doesn't refer to anything more recent than about 2005. It would be great if he could update it, especially in light of the 2008 financial crash and subsequent recession.
