What is the point? Where is the story?

I listened and listened waiting for “it”. What is the point of this memoir? What did he accomplish? What might I wish to emulate or learn from? I really don’t understand why the author thought it appropriate to write an autobiography. From what I can tell (I listened to the entire book), there is no story to tell. From an LGB POV, there are mostly references to encounters via open relationships, breakups, and excessive drinking . LGB literature has much more to offer than this. This is not heroic. This is not really interesting. I just don’t get it. I expected much, much more.

Nasally, fake southern accent was such a distraction that it was impossible to get into the story. So sad because I love this author’s books! Please do better.
