Historia
As a hospice nurse, Zara Mitchell has already seen more death than most people will experience in a lifetime. So when her older sister asks her to help care for their ailing grandmother, Zara agrees - despite strained family relationships. Though pale and tired, Nonna has lost none of her sharp mind. She’s fixated on finding something long forgotten, and she immediately puts Zara to work cleaning out the attic. Amid the tedium of sifting through knickknacks and heirlooms, Zara also reconnects with a man she’s attracted to but whose complicated past makes romance seem impossible.

Like nails scratching on a blackboard.
Revisado: 03-27-21
Proud to have lived in LA all my life & at 60, listening to the narrator butcher common LA names is like listening to nails scratch across a blackboard! And I don’t understand Jana Deleon allowing these Audible books to be released with such obvious blunders! The narrator flips back and forth between LeBlank & LeBlanc (hard ‘C’) & both are wrong. LeBlanc is pronounced like LeBla. And Hebert is pronounced like A-Bear...not He-Bert!!! I could go on & on but it’s doing South LA & the story such disservice to not even say the words correctly.

Historia
The moon peers out from behind the dark clouds, but deep within the swamp, even the tiniest sliver is like a beacon in the pitch black. The path is barely discernable, but she knows the way. She steps up to the edge of the water and stares at the silver locket in her hand, a picture of two girls inside. One is her. The other…is waiting. She begins to sing, and the winds pick up her tune. The water stirs, and from the center of the angry current, the young woman emerges. Her haunting voice carries over the water.

INCREDIBLE story with TERRIBLE Narrator
Revisado: 03-09-21
What an INCREDIBLE story... the author has done it again! I laughed, I cried & enjoyed every word! Except for the HORRIBLE narration! I just don’t understand how the author, born & raised in LA, can turn her novels (really her babies) over to be completely butchered by the narrator. Anybody that thinks she does a good job isn’t from LA. Her pronunciation of New Orleans is bad enough but every time she said Leblanc, I felt like somebody was raking their fingernails across a blackboard! She pronounced Leblanc with a hard C & the C is supposed to be silent! I was ready to throw my device across the room! Mrs DeLeon... your Shaye Archer series is WAY too good to not have a narrator that’ll tell the stories as correctly & as richly as they deserve to be told!

Historia
Street kids are disappearing, but how do you report it to the police when they don’t believe you exist to begin with? Jinx LeDoux bolts upright, gasping for air, her heart pounding. Something has happened. Something she can’t quite remember. Worse, she’s surrounded by darkness. She puts her hands on the ground, trying to grasp something familiar. The splintered wood of her abandoned apartment isn’t there. It’s something hard, cold, and round. She grabs the bars with both hands, but they don’t budge. She’s in a cage.

INCREDIBLE Story & Series... but READ the books instead of listening to this narrator.
Revisado: 02-26-21
The continuing story of PI, Shaye Archer, was fabulous & kept me guessing the whole way through with lots of twists, turns & action. Sadly, the narrator did a terrible job! She mispronounced common LA words & names (Thibodeaux, Lake Maurepas, etc.) & those mistakes could have easily been rectified with a little research. Also, her voice sounds very robotic & the different characters all sound the same, making it difficult to tell who’s suppose to be talking. I don’t understand why Jana doesn’t have a flavorful Cajun or expressive New Orleans native narrating these stories!!! It would add so much more authenticity to her stories! The Shaye Archer psychological mystery series is top notch tho... so just read the books instead of listening to them. *NOTE - the books in the “Shaye Archer” series are NOT “Stand Alone” Books & need to be read in order or you’ll be totally lost. You may also want to read them back to back, like I’m doing, so you don’t forget too many of the important details from the previous book.

Historia
Emma Frederick bolts upright in bed, pulse racing. It must be a bad dream. Except it’s not. Crrrrrreeeeeeeeaaaaaaakkkkkkk. The sound of the loose step sends her body into overdrive, and she rushes for the secret room behind the wall. The screech of old hinges echoes through the house as he enters her bedroom. He starts whistling. Three blind mice. Three blind mice. She slaps a hand over her mouth, stifling her scream. He’s coming for her, but that can’t be. She killed him last month.

Recommend!
Revisado: 02-25-21
The story was great and kept me interested the whole way through with lots of twists, turns & action. While the narrator did an ok job on some of the voices, the 2 main character’s voices (the nurse & the PI she employs) sounded too much the same & I often couldn’t tell which one was suppose to be talking. That was the only thing that made the book not as enjoyable tho and so this might be a series that is better read than listened to. *NOTE - the books in the “Shaye Archer” series are NOT “Stand Alone” Books & need to be read n order or you’ll be totally lost. Some lines should never be crossed. Police corruption, an investigation that ends in tragedy and the mystery of a little girl’s silence – three unconnected events that will prove to be linked by one small town. While detective Cormac Reilly faces enemies at work and trouble in his personal life, garda Peter Fisher is relocated out of Galway with the threat of prosecution hanging over his head. But even that is not as terrible as having to work for his overbearing father, the local copper for the pretty seaside town of Roundstone.

Narrator is GREAT!
Revisado: 02-23-21
I could listen to this narrator read the phone book... she has such a soothing voice with all the right inflections, etc. I’ve listened to all 3 stories in this series and like this one the least. It had to many fragmented parts going on. While I like this series overall, there are 2 big things that take away from it. One is the foul language, including lots of “F” bombs & using Christ’s name in vain. I don’t understand why authors do this... it’s offensive to many, is so unnecessary, adds nothing to the story & cuts back on the authors potential sales. The 2nd thing is the very sudden & abrupt endings to her books. The author tries to wrap everything up in a final epilogue but it feels very rushed, anticlimactic & all the answers aren’t tied up like they should be.

Paint your toes. Pick up the wrong coffee and bagel order. Drive from Brooklyn to Jersey in traffic so slow you want to tear your hair out. It’s amazing all the useless things I can accomplish while on hold for three hours with customer service. Three hours when I should be getting the Date-in-a-Box website ready to launch at the big business expo in a few days. Except my shiny new website is glitching, and my inner rage-monster is ready to scorch some earth...when he finally picks up. Not the robot voice I expected but a real live human named Kal.

One of the BEST EVER Audible books!
Revisado: 01-29-21
This story captured me from the very beginning because of the 2 narrators. Their voices are captivating & they made me visualize everything... there’s a real chemistry between them. And the story just got better and better... I HAD to know what was going to happen next because I grew to really care about the characters. It felt like I was listening in to a conversation the entire time, rather than listening to someone reading a book. Incredible all the way around! Highly Recommend!!!
