Historia
Police academy cadet Charlie Burns can't believe his luck when the gorgeous blonde he meets in a bar murmurs those magic words: "Nothing serious, 'kay?" Mind-blowing, no-strings sex with Ever Carmichael - it's the holy grail of hookups for a guy who's too busy following in his law enforcement family's footsteps to think about getting serious. Charlie's all about casual...that is until Ever calls it quits, and his world tilts on its axis.

Charlie was so obnoxious. I'm assuming he redeemed himself by the end, but I couldn’t tolerate his company long enough to get there. Completely self centered and not unwilling to take Ever's feelings seriously.
I have really enjoyed many of Tessa Bailey's books but disliked this one.

Historia
It all started with a bet. When my young son inherited half of his great grandfather’s historic inn, I decided to move us both to the place where I grew up. Notice I said half of the Inn. The other half now belonged to Levi Miller, the famous quarterback who had other ideas about what we should do with the property. We won’t mention that I accidentally injured him during our first meeting, causing him to get eight stitches. You could say we got off on the wrong foot. We bickered a lot as we both moved into the property while we figured things out.

Only OK
Revisado: 10-16-23
This is not a bad book, but I never really got into it. I couldn’t identify with either of the leads. I really disliked Fern. I'm sure she’s meant to be the small town eccentric, but I found her majorly annoying. And the little boy, Evan, seemed to always get his way (I know I was supposed to like him, too). I started with the audiobook but switched to the ebook in KU near the end just so I could finish it.

Jet McAlister has a secret. Eddie Chavez has the hots for Jet (not to mention Eddie’s just plain hot). Jet has too many problems to realize that Eddie’s interested. Eddie loses patience when Jet ends her waitressing shift at a strip club with a knife at her throat. Since Eddie’s a cop, he figures he can help. Since Jet’s used to solving everyone’s problems she doesn’t want Eddie’s help.

Not great
Revisado: 09-27-23
I'm really glad that I didn’t start listening to Kristen Ashley with this series. I love some of her books (Wild Man and Perfect Together are both wonderful). If I had hit this book early on I doubt I would have discovered her other great books. Jet reminds me very much of Mara in Law Man. Both are annoying. Jet seems to be completely clueless - constantly dragging people trying to help her into dangerous situations. All this after being told repeatedly that's what she’s doing. Also, I’ve known many truly lovely women. All of them knew they were lovely. Her level of clueless and thoughtless were severely annoying. And I got the impression that that Vance, Mace or even Hank could have had her as easily as Eddie. I finished this book but it left a bad taste.

Just too much
Revisado: 08-26-23
This set gets one star because it was good enough to keep me reading until the last book and a second star because some of the plot points were interesting.
If you are going to make an audiobook with many southern characters, get someone who has a clue about southern accents. Don’t use narrators that mispronounce so many words. And if three of the most important characters are of Irish descent, for goodness sake hire someone who can pronounce Celtic.
I read books with all kinds of couples and even all kinds of trios. But I really had a hard time with all of the major couples being a Black woman and a white male. With so many couples some variety would have been more interesting. I'm also good with all kinds of sex scenes. These books had a lot of sex scenes and they went on forever and they were repetitive. In the end they were more clinical than erotic.
By the end of the fifth book the violence and torture had ratcheted up to a level that made me uncomfortable. I can handle a good deal of violence but this stuff went way too far.
And finally, because this was a box set it didn’t bother me too much that the epilogues were teasers for the next book. I did read the epilogue for the final book after I decided not to finish it to see if it cleared up loose ends. It was apparently a teaser for another series. No thank you.

A Favorite
Revisado: 05-14-23
I truly loved this book. The story was interesting and I loved the characters. The descriptions of the marsh made it come alive. The love story was tender and sweet. I appreciated that as their relationship grew they were able to see when they were in the wrong and fixed things immediately - no drawn out misunderstandings. Against the slow growth of the relationship was true danger from different directions and that created tension and suspense. I appreciated how the author handled the very real danger to people in same sex relationships.
Several reviews were unhappy with the narration. For me it was perfect, especially the two main characters. They sounded the way I thought they should. I was also impressed that even though you don’t know the grandfather's backstory right away, I wondered why he sounded like he came from the American south - nicely subtle.
I hope this turns into a long, long series.

Bad luck has always followed Olivia Marshall...or maybe she's just the screw-up her family thinks she is. But when a "What are you wearing?" text from a random wrong number turns into the hottest, most entertaining - albeit anonymous - relationship of her life, she thinks things might be on the upswing.

Problematic
Revisado: 04-22-23
Although the writing was good overall, I really disliked Olivia. She was unpleasant. She lied and continued to lie to her employer. When she disposed of a quantity of a bottle of expensive alcohol, she blew it off even after being told it was a commemorative bottle of sentimental value. She made messes and damaged property and sneered because of the cost of the items. She slept in someone’s bed without permission - that was just creepy. And after the big blowup, she twice refused to even let Collin tell his side. I've rewritten the ending of this book in my head and there is no happy ending except for Collin because he moves on to a better woman.

So entertaining
Revisado: 12-21-22
This was a very enjoyable book. I loved the characters, loved Hidden Staircase Construction {what a clever idea!). The plot was interesting and the writing good. I did not like the hint towards the end of a love triangle. Sure enough, from reviews of the next book in the series the triangle continues. It’s too bad, but I won’t be continuing this series. I hate that plot device. But I did enjoy listening to this book.
