Pulpy Planet-hopping Hijinks
Revisado: 08-06-24
This was a pretty easy and fun listen. I didn't read the first book (this was a book club pick), so I was a little confused, but I could follow the basic story. Eva Innocente is an admirable and likable character. I didn't really know what was going on with her sister and mother since I didn't read the first book. The crew was all fun and very diverse. This book has a lot of action and fighting, but also a lot of introspection and a bit of goofing off. I would recommend it!

Historia
Fetter was raised to kill, honed as a knife to cut down his sainted father. This gave him plenty to talk about in therapy. He walked among invisible powers: devils and anti-gods that mock the mortal form. He learned a lethal catechism, lost his shadow, and gained a habit for secrecy. After a blood-soaked childhood, Fetter escaped his rural hometown for the big city, and fell into a broader world where divine destinies are a dime a dozen.

Interesting but hard to follow on audio
Revisado: 07-09-24
I probably should have read this visually... there are a lot of character names and names of political parties that can be hard to keep track of without seeing them written down. The main character is Fetter and his father is the Perfect and Kind. I forgot most of the other characters' names.
The scenes were entertaining but I'm not sure what happened exactly. I'll look for a plot summary or rent a physical copy from the library later.
Interesting stuff here about colonialism, Buddhism, and Sri Lanka. Will have to do more research to understand because listening and not having prior knowledge it was a little hard to follow.
Would still recommend for something different in the scifi/fantasy genre.

Historia
An enormous snow-covered mountain has appeared in the Pacific Ocean. No one knows when exactly it showed up, precisely how big it might be, or how to explain its existence. When Harold Tunmore is contacted by a shadowy organization to help investigate, he has no idea what he is getting into as he and his team set out for the mountain. The higher Harold’s team ascends, the less things make sense. Time moves differently, turning minutes into hours, and hours into days.

Great narration, emotional
Revisado: 05-29-24
Hard to parse the scifi aspects when listening, but the narrator makes the emotional core of the story even stronger.
The book is a little cheesy - at times it felt like a campfire story, Scooby-Doo, or a horror anime. There were some unintentionally funny bits.
It gets into some philosophical/psychological depth, but nothing really mind-blowing.
I really enjoyed the experience of listening, very suspenseful even though I could see some parts coming.

Historia
Women rule in Women's Country. Women live apart from men, sheltering the remains of civilization. They have cut themselves off with walls and by ordinance from marauding males. Waging war is all men are good for. Men are allowed to fight their barbaric battles among themselves, garrison against garrison. For the sake of his pride, each boy child ritualistically rejects his mother when he comes of age to be a warrior. But all the secrets of civilization are strictly the possession of women.

Crazy book!

It takes a while to build up, but it comes together well. Interesting commentary on gender and sex.
